This coaching search in the back of Pruitt's mind...

This is my opinion on what is in the back of Pruitts mind... Recruiting.. And recruiting..

I think he has recruiting as a much higher priority than a OC. He knows he will get a OC.. Heck he has two that can call plays on staff already.. Not saying they are the coaches I was hoping for.. But they could step in..

I think he could be looking to a coach like Kitchens in the NFL and is not in a hurry because the NFL season is almost to a end.. Or could possibly be a college OC that is coaching in a bowl game.. Idk..

So back to recruiting.. He already has a few OC players that are committed and will be EEs.. Two are for the Oline.. Well.. Friend will be their coach.. So no changes.. The QB is solid for 2019 no matter who is hired it seems. The others being recruited know who their RB and WR coach will be.. And pretty much will know what Pruitt wants to do on offense.. So no matter who he brings in.. The recruits will have a idea even without a OC in place what they will be looking forward to at UT. And I'm sure if Pruitt has a NFL guy.. That is all he needs to tell a recruit.

Pruitt has emphasized the need for players to turn this program around.. So I honestly believe thats priority number one right now above hiring a OC to him.

I do think he has interviewed and has some running dialog with potential coordinators for the job.. Just don't think he feels it's a priority while recruiting is hot at this moment.. Just my opinion.. And BTW.. I check the board hourly to see if he has hired someone.. 😂
Pruitt was a college DC coaching in a college playoff and eventual national championship and we announced him before those games last year. I don’t buy that argument

Ever since Pruitt was hired as the new coach at Tennessee it has been speculated that he would leave for Bama when they come calling after Saban leaves. I was kind of 50/50 on that, thinking if he has built a top notch program by then why leave and go try to fill shoes that I don't think any other coach in America could fill. We all hate Bama but if we are being non-biased, Saban is the greatest coach since Bear Bryant. That brings me to this coaching search and how its probably always going to be in the back of Pruitt's mind if this scenario of Bama comes calling plays out in the distant future. I know rumors have been flying in every direction but Trey Wallace and Dan Harralson talked about it in a podcast that the admin (nobody can pinpoint it to a specific person) did in fact derail Pruitt's hire of Freeze. That can't sit well with him knowing every hiring decision he makes in the future is going to have to be signed off by people who have never placed one foot on Shields-Watkins Field.
Rumors! Can’t pinpoint to a specific person?
Then sounds like there is no evidence to support what they are saying and is likely BS,
But being UT it wouldn’t surprise anyone if it’s true

Maybe Pruitt didn't mind?! I guess it could be up to an individual if they choose to keep it quiet? Who knows, none of us do for sure...It's anybody's guess at this point.

**Edit** It's also possible, being in the National Championship game, he wanted his being a head coach announced hoping it would help with recruiting...seeing how he had a small window of opportunity. Situations are different for different people.

1...The UT vs Candy game is simple...
A...It all came down to the players, NOT the coaches.
B...Candy players DID want to go bowling, UT players wanted to go home.
C...Candy players DID want the 15 extra practices, UT players wanted to relax at home.

2...Dabo would be a complete idiot to leave Clemson and go to Bama after saTan leaves.

Nobody will live up to what saTan has done at Bama so I feel sorry for any coach that follows saTan there.

3...The Hugh Freeze garbage needs to STOP now, it's over, dead and that ship has sunk so just drop the crap please.

It's obvious about 2 things...
A...Freeze seems to have more stink on him than a dead skunk does so FSU passed on him after digging deeper into things.
B...It's very obvious that the high powers in the SEC office has put out the word that Freeze is simply NOT welcome back in the SEC for the foreseeable future when even saTan wanted him at alaBummer.

We need to get back to some sort of reality here my friends and just wait and see who we get as our new OC because nothing we say or do will mean anything anyway.

I'm just like everyone else, I want to know who it is right NOW too.

VFL...GBO!!!

I get you.. But different scenario being he was to be announced as a head coach and keeping a recruiting class together at that time.. He isn't going to lose any recruits with not announcing a OC.. Hey.. It's just a thought.. It's definitely interesting..

For example, it might mean that we are getting Cooter.

Lions' Jim Bob Cooter blocking out chatter about his job status

Does anyone else like Cooter?
I brought his name up last week on this board. He played for Coach Fulmer and was a graduate assistant for the Vols after his playing days ended. Since then, he has progressed rapidly through several NFL organizations, having learned offensive schemes and nuances from some excellent coaches. He is a young man (mid-30s) who would, most likely, relate well to our young players. Plus, given the Detroit Lions’ disappointing season, he may find a change of scenery more to his liking. I think he would be a solid hire. Being a VFL should count for something as well.

Just a good ole boy from Lincoln County High School. Perfect fit!

Peyton said he will help JB as needed.

Pruitt should worry more about beating Vanderbilt, Scar, and Mizzou than being the coach for Bama one day. Unfortunately I'm not sure that's the case right now.

So, where is Dabo Swinney in this "picture" ??

Oh for sure. I think he definitely has recruiting on the brain as you said. He understands that’s how you get better. We need guys.

Makes me sick thinking about it.

I would not be worried one iota that Bama will take Pruitt away. He can’t even beat Vandy with better or equal talent.

Bama wants Pruitt to gain experience and for Tennessee to polish his speaking ability and his use of the English language, then will they consider Pruitt:)

The SEC said no to Freeze going to Bama. How do you know he just didnt want to be a head coach?
I don’t know......it’s just an opinion I have on the matter. I just find it hard to believe that 2 SEC schools and an ACC school looking for OCs and he would decide on his own to take the Liberty job.

If he's good enough to be Saban's replacement, then it's "Mission Accomplished" on Rocky Top and we will be in a position where top notch coaches come to us.

Two comments...one, even his dad would tell him he's gotta show he can win some games before bama remotely interested. If he is found worthy of being hired, UT will be in much better place, and next HC hire will be alot easier. Secondly, EVERYONE is accountable to a higher authority...whatever work you're in. If your current boss says "no", then it's no. It's Pruitt's job to produce within the confines of what's acceptable. For me, IF, big IF, Fulmer, or whomever said no to Freeze on character or skeletons in the closet, or whatever, he's got to accept that an move on...and make it work. Excuses don't work in P5 football...you either get it done, or you don't. Pruitt doesn't appear to be one to make excuses. We'll be aight'.

Well I'm not going to say that our leadership isn't incompetent enough to block Pruitt from hiring Freeze but I don't believe that's the case this time.

1) I don't think Sankey would sign off on Freeze. He's discouraged a team from hiring him in the past and I doubt he would ok the hire now. I know we heard media reports to the contrary but I just can't see the sec giving him a pass after he landed a school on sanctions and had a black cloud over him due to the escort shenanigans. I can't see the conference wanting that kind of individual to repair his career in the sec when he brought shame on the conference with his past actions.

2) I also think probably the interest in Freeze was overplayed. Say what you will about Pruitt and fulmer but the leaks to the media have been pretty non existent on the athletic department side of things. It's far more likely information was coming from Freeze or sexton or just being made up entirely. It's in Freeze and Sexton's previous actions to leak details to the media for their own image/benefit. Remember Freeze's actions against Houston Nutt which kind of led to the chain of events that got him canned.

3) A candidate like Briles ticks off several of the same boxes Freeze did but without the significant drawbacks. High profile offenses that have been ranked in the top handful of offenses in the nation in their respective year. He's had success in several places offensively. He also was big12 recruiter of the year for two years while at Baylor. Also I know there's a lot made of what he knew about the events that led to his father's firing. You have to know he was likely vetted and checked throughly and still he kept his job after his father's termination. All of that said I think most would think Briles was every bit of the recruiter and coordinator that Freeze is capable of being.

All of the above of course is JMO though.

Damn. That left a mark.

Our admin is interested in the cash football brings. Period. If 102,455 hit that stadium every gameday (or even anything over 85K or so) and we all keep buying merchandise, I don't think they give a rat's patootie about what is on the field.
Interesting absolutes you project.
