Pruitt was a college DC coaching in a college playoff and eventual national championship and we announced him before those games last year. I don’t buy that argumentThis is my opinion on what is in the back of Pruitts mind... Recruiting.. And recruiting..
I think he has recruiting as a much higher priority than a OC. He knows he will get a OC.. Heck he has two that can call plays on staff already.. Not saying they are the coaches I was hoping for.. But they could step in..
I think he could be looking to a coach like Kitchens in the NFL and is not in a hurry because the NFL season is almost to a end.. Or could possibly be a college OC that is coaching in a bowl game.. Idk..
So back to recruiting.. He already has a few OC players that are committed and will be EEs.. Two are for the Oline.. Well.. Friend will be their coach.. So no changes.. The QB is solid for 2019 no matter who is hired it seems. The others being recruited know who their RB and WR coach will be.. And pretty much will know what Pruitt wants to do on offense.. So no matter who he brings in.. The recruits will have a idea even without a OC in place what they will be looking forward to at UT. And I'm sure if Pruitt has a NFL guy.. That is all he needs to tell a recruit.
Pruitt has emphasized the need for players to turn this program around.. So I honestly believe thats priority number one right now above hiring a OC to him.
I do think he has interviewed and has some running dialog with potential coordinators for the job.. Just don't think he feels it's a priority while recruiting is hot at this moment.. Just my opinion.. And BTW.. I check the board hourly to see if he has hired someone..![]()
Rumors! Can’t pinpoint to a specific person?Ever since Pruitt was hired as the new coach at Tennessee it has been speculated that he would leave for Bama when they come calling after Saban leaves. I was kind of 50/50 on that, thinking if he has built a top notch program by then why leave and go try to fill shoes that I don't think any other coach in America could fill. We all hate Bama but if we are being non-biased, Saban is the greatest coach since Bear Bryant. That brings me to this coaching search and how its probably always going to be in the back of Pruitt's mind if this scenario of Bama comes calling plays out in the distant future. I know rumors have been flying in every direction but Trey Wallace and Dan Harralson talked about it in a podcast that the admin (nobody can pinpoint it to a specific person) did in fact derail Pruitt's hire of Freeze. That can't sit well with him knowing every hiring decision he makes in the future is going to have to be signed off by people who have never placed one foot on Shields-Watkins Field.
Maybe Pruitt didn't mind?! I guess it could be up to an individual if they choose to keep it quiet? Who knows, none of us do for sure...It's anybody's guess at this point.Pruitt was a college DC coaching in a college playoff and eventual national championship and we announced him before those games last year. I get you.. But different scenario being he was to be announced as a head coach and keeping a recruiting class together at that time.. He isn't going to lose any recruits with not announcing a OC.. Hey.. It's just a thought.. It's definitely interesting..Pruitt was a college DC coaching in a college playoff and eventual national championship and we announced him before those games last year. I brought his name up last week on this board. He played for Coach Fulmer and was a graduate assistant for the Vols after his playing days ended. Since then, he has progressed rapidly through several NFL organizations, having learned offensive schemes and nuances from some excellent coaches. He is a young man (mid-30s) who would, most likely, relate well to our young players. Plus, given the Detroit Lions’ disappointing season, he may find a change of scenery more to his liking. I think he would be a solid hire. Being a VFL should count for something as well. For example, it might mean that we are getting Cooter.
Lions' Jim Bob Cooter blocking out chatter about his job status
Does anyone else like Cooter?

So, where is Dabo Swinney in this "picture" ??Ever since Pruitt was hired as the new coach at Tennessee it has been speculated that he would leave for Bama when they come calling after Saban leaves. Oh for sure. I think he definitely has recruiting on the brain as you said. He understands that’s how you get better. We need guys.I get you.. Two comments...one, even his dad would tell him he's gotta show he can win some games before bama remotely interested. If he is found worthy of being hired, UT will be in much better place, and next HC hire will be alot easier. Secondly, EVERYONE is accountable to a higher authority...whatever work you're in. If your current boss says "no", then it's no. It's Pruitt's job to produce within the confines of what's acceptable. For me, IF, big IF, Fulmer, or whomever said no to Freeze on character or skeletons in the closet, or whatever, he's got to accept that an move on...and make it work. Excuses don't work in P5 football...you either get it done, or you don't. Pruitt doesn't appear to be one to make excuses. Interesting absolutes you project.Damn. That left a mark.
Our admin is interested in the cash football brings. Period. If 102,455 hit that stadium every gameday (or even anything over 85K or so) and we all keep buying merchandise, I don't think they give a rat's patootie about what is on the field.
