Could the problem with third quarters be that halftime is too much rest? They’re conditioned for the short bursts and short rest. Maybe muscles and reflexs get too cold. Not sure what you could do about that.

fatigue might be a factor in some of the problematic things we’re seeing. It was a problem at this point last year.Maybe lapses are bc they’re dog tired and zone out not bc they dgaf?

You are really grasping for straws about the halftime rest being a problem. That is a time to re-group and rest up, hydrate, and make adjustments for the remainder of the game. If anyone thinks that the short bursts and short rest make them able to stay fresh all game you do not watch the games. In the fourth quarter they look gassed while most of the other teams look fresher. With all she is trying to do its possible to be mentally drained in the fourth. Just go out and play basketball without worrying about when to jump in and jump out of the game. Geez, just play basketball.

But we play a lot better in the fourth than we do in the third. So, it seems like they are either losing focus/intensity at halftime or we are making crappy adjustments or the players struggle to implement good halftime adjustments.

Wasn't there one season a Josh Heupel team was a suck fest in the third quarter?

Couple of thoughts. I keep hearing that the system worked at Marshall. As I recall yes it did —in their conference. Can someone remind me what happened when they played in the tournament against an ACC team? So the system working at Glenville State and Marshall does not compare to working in the SEC. Sorry.

Another thought. I hate what NIL has done as much as the next person BUT for those who want to carry on and on about players are getting the money regardless of effort and results, they aren’t as motivated, etc…couldn’t the same be said for coaches?

At lower levels the pay is minimal compared to that million a year CKC is making, win or lose. And if fired hey big buy-out. (I always say why do they football coaches care about being fired besides their ego—be good enough to get one big contract and you should be set for life if you don’t blow the money , even if you are a complete failure at your job).

If people can be so sure the players have been tainted by NIL, what about the coaches who finally hit the big contract? Coach Kim could retire in her 30s if UT paid her buy-out and she wanted to be a stay at home mom. She is under a microscope now and probably extremely stressed but win or lose she gets the big paycheck. Hmmm…just like those “lazy” D1 players. Food for thought.

As Mudcat keeps pointing out, Caldwell's buyout drops to $2 million April 1. Not chicken feed, but not life changing, either, after taxes. She has a pretty expensive house in Gettysvue to make payments on, too.

I suspect the main reason the Lady Vols sometimes struggle in the third quarter is because the coaching staffs of the opposing teams make successful adjustments at halftime and it often takes until the fourth quarter for us to adjust to those adjustments.

We’re not exactly known for making noticeable adjustments of our own at halftime.

Without question. Kim has been asked many times in post game pressers what her halftime adjustments were. The answer is inevitably to stick to the game plan. As madtowne likes to say, if only they'd run into that brick wall a little harder.

I have a friend who says the only in game adjustments CKC makes is how to fold her arms across her chest.
