lots of great ideas guys. thanks much.
edit: any specific objections to louisville? the gf has that in her head for some reason.
I can't imagine what would entertain me for 4 - 5 days in Louisville. That said, here's a few attractions within 2 hours.
Lexington is about 80 miles away - there are plenty of distilleries in the area. The Horse Park is worth a visit. Also, if you are going to Churchill you should go to Keeneland in Lexington. Not as famous but a truly magnificent and historic facility.
If you are a race fan, Indianapolis is about 100 miles north and the Indianapolis Speedway and Museum is pretty spectacular as well.
As you can see, my suggestions get you OUT of Louisville!
what we are looking for is some history / attractions and excuses to booze and relax. neither of us really golf. I love the ocean though, but that doesn't have to be a high priority.
I recommend Bardstown.
short trip south of Louisville.
You get History and Whisky!
that's where "the old Kentucky Home" is.
they may still do an outdoor theater performance of
the Stephen Foster Story.
Corny? yes, but GF may like it.
For beaches, boozing and a little history you might want to reconsider the whole thing and go to Key West. The Summer heat usually drives out alot of the transients who tend to wind up there in the Winter months so it's a bit cleaner and there's a little more elbow room.
