Things I'm happy about today

I’m happy my baby girl is coming home from college for the summer after a successful freshman year. Made Dean’s list first semester, looks like she’s going to do it again for second semester. Can’t wait to have her back home, sleeping in her bed.

I want to believe that superdave baptized his young son properly. I do. But, there's this mischief in me that sees a bunch of soaking wet fishing buddies pulling one's dry teen-aged son into the water, shouting, we baptize you in the name of the Lord who created the fishes we seek with which to feed our families! Rise, reborn fisherman! Go forth and catch, keeping only those which you mean to eat, for now you keep covenant with the Creator of fishes!

That's actually funny. I asked him if wanted to be baptized at the church or in the river. he declined the river.
Here's something for folks to ponder. When he brought this up, he asked "what is my next step?" He wondered what he needed to do to be saved. We told him. He said I already do that. Then he asked to be baptized and so we began the discussion of what it was, why it is done, what it means. He knows and understands what we were telling him. He's a really deep thinker. When we asked him why he wants to be baptized he really couldn't pinpoint a specific reason, he just told us "God wants me to".
He's 8 and is already hearing God speak to his heart. I am sorta envious of that. I am sure He spoke to me at that age, but I was not able to hear it nor have any understanding AT ALL.

I thought it was funny too, just for a different reason.

I was saved June of 74 at a revival. I'll never forget that experience. Unfortunately I had to do things my way and.. well, this isn't the thread for that. I'm not of the belief "once saved always saved" either.

Anyway, I'm happy for your son, you and your family. You're extremely blessed IMO.

When we were talking about baptism for my oldest daughter, my pastor at the time made a point that has stood with me. Most kids don't understand the concepts of sin and salvation at that age, but its always a good thing to point them towards Christ.
