If the reports are right, he was threatening to poach players and coaches if they didn't. So if true, not exactly as benevolent as it sounds.

Yes, reports of infidelity were a factor in Lane Kiffin's divorce from his wife, Layla Kiffin, in 2016. Rumors of affairs surfaced in late 2015, which was followed by the announcement of their split in early 2016.

They likely won't but that would be fitting if they won it all and he's not there.

I also think part of why he wanted to stay to coach them is that very reason.

1. Baton Rouge is a pit hole of a city. Oxford is a nice place.
2. Yet Ole Miss is in the playoffs and LSU isn’t.

When you make $9-$12M you don’t give a **** about the poverty around you, the public schools, the obesity rate etc. Both states are bottom of the barrel in every economic category, still doesn’t change the fact Oxford is an infinitely safer, cleaner, aesthetically more beautiful, higher educated and wealthier city than Baton Rouge.

The state of Mississippi sucks. I used to live there a couple of my high school years. There’s a reason it’s voted the worst state in America. Ole Miss being in the playoff still doesn’t take away that LSU is a better job, be realistic.
