I got about half of what I wanted to done today but I have a good reason.
I a few hours in the morning 1 day a week and try to prospect for new customers in the Florida market.
I will either Google businesses that sell barnwood or cruise Craigslist looking for recent ads and contact those folks.
I did that until noon and contacted several businesses. One was a large deal that I have been trying for several weeks to speak with their purchasing agent. I finally got through today and was able to speak with him. He is very interested in what I'm offering and asked me to send him pics and contact info. It was a very promising prospect and I was pleased to finally have made direct contact with someone.
I had left messages with 2 other companies and honestly didn't expect a call back. I finally got to work and started loading down my trailer with what I pulled yesterday, emptied it and started back for another. I had left my phone at the site and had missed a call.
I returned it and it was from a gentleman that I had left a message with. Turns out he is one of the largest buyers it barnwood in Florida, regularly buying up to 20000 board feet a month. We talked for a bit. Told him about my company. What I offer. How I operate.
He used to tear down barns also and camped on-site like I do. A lot of similarities. He complained a lot about the freight he was having to pay to get wood shipped in.
Our conversation then turned to what my pricing was. I quoted him $2.00 a board foot which includes delivery. He never batted an eye. Lol. He agreed to that price.. which is the best price I have ever gotten. He said he remembers when he was a small operation like mine and tris to support small businesses like mine all he can.
I'm supposed to take my first load to him next week.
Very very productive day. It doesn't always show what you accomplish by what you load on the trailer.
