They are starting JG after the bye... (this week's depth chart)

In so many words. “JG WILL play and is STILL going to help this team win games”. Given what you’ve seen, wouldn’t you kind of be forced to agree that was coach speak last year for “I’m just waiting for Maurer to screw up bad enough to justify going back to JG? At any point did he say any of the others will “still play” while JG was starting? I rest my case.
So...no. You didn’t hear him say that. More juxtaposing...more disappointment. 😔

JG is the starter from here on out. It is what it is. Pruitt has chosen his hill.

With Pruitt's loyalty to JG, I'm starting to worry about him returning for next year.

If so, we might have another coaching search at the end of the next season.

It's a little bit of a moot point - i just posted our third down effeciency with JG at the helm. The only two teams we even have a chance against with JG at quaterback seem to be Arky and Vandy. The rest will curb stomp us - period. end of story. Could we beat any of those other teams with BM at quarterback - not likely. Auburn, A and M, and Florida will beat us by double didgets, probably with or without JG. Pruitt has bet the ranch on JG and he has a 25% 3rd down efficiency percentage to show for it. Is it possible for BM to do worse than 25% on third downs ? It is conceivable, but there is no place to go but up. If he can escape from the pocket and pick up a few third down conversions -- that is way, way ahead of where we are now.

I think its funny how so many people think CJP is somehow digging his grave or dying on his hill. I think some of you really scared him when mentioning he might not want to come back to Knoxville. The drama....

BM is 50% leading the offense on 3rd down

Context clues Butchna. He said it.... many times. You just weren’t listening.

Think about this. If I’m wrong in his thinking then why bench Maurer, never to look back again after a bad game by his standards that was nowhere CLOSE to the standards of a “bad” JG game? Maurer was benched vs UK after not having the ball at all in the first quarter and finished the half with 120 yards of total offense and getting the team into scoring position in very few opportunities. 120 yards in one quarter and he was BENCHED! Yet JG can go out and throw 2 pick 6s and turn the ball over due to lack of pocket presence 6 times in less than 2 games?

Bottom line...... if you ain’t hearing him say “JG is more important than this TEAM” then you have selective hearing and eye sight.

Maurer was damn near money on third downs as a freshman. And in the little sample we got, he hasn’t changed. So yes I think as a sophomore he’d be better. And you’re probably right that we still lose to those teams this year BECAUSE of the way the qbs were handled last year. But think about this. What if Maurer has been given the opportunity to unseat JG before JP was forced? What if he’d gotten the cupcake games leading up to UF last year? We seen what he could do to a better team with minimum preparation so assuming we lose THIS year May have been different.

Here’s another tid bit. Why did Saban feel the need to call Maurer by name leading up to the game? He was sending a message to Pruitt that he fears Maurer more than JG. So he wanted Pruitt to know he’s preparing his team to defend HIM. That quote tells you how little Saban had to see to diagnose who UTs best qb was.

OR you have selective hearing and an equally selective agenda...specially when it comes to Maurer and by “specially” I mean SPECIFICALLY. To paraphrase the Brady Bunch, MAURER MAURER MAURER! 😉

Why do I even try to explain anything to you? You just won’t allow yourself to understand the points I make no matter the significance

Bailey, Shrout, & Maurer should transfer.

Why would they want to waste their time watching this garbage every week?

As I’ve said before, if Maurer or Bailey transfer as a result of Pruitt playing his pathetic favorite QB, I hope they transfer to a school TN plays in the next few years and I hope they have career days with 600 yards and 10 TD’s to prove what an idiot Pruitt is. I have lost all faith in Pruitt. I’m so sick of JG and his losing ways.

It’s been a long time since Tennessee was really a contender. That being said, through the past 15 years or so of just not being that good of a football team, I have never seen a coach anchor himself to a quarterback that just makes the whole team worse. I really want Pruitt to succeed, but I’ve never seen a guy so stubborn that he rides a guy who has cost him so many games, and he refuses to give anyone else a chance. If the loses start piling up, we will watch the 1st coach in my memory sign his exit papers by playing a guy at qb who proves to him every week that he can’t play the position.
Dooley had enough foresight to bench Simms in favor of Bray, had he hired a 4-3 dc that year we would’ve won the east. Butch finally played Dobbs in favor of Worley/ Peterman, and it extended his stay by a couple of years. Time is ticking for Pruitt. Will he cut the rope or go down with the anchor that is Jarret Guarantano at qb?

I saw enough of BM last year to believe that the offense will play better with more tempo, rythm and a better flow when he is out there vs. JG. As I mentioned, there is almost no where to go but up. There is really no rational reason to be playing JG other than stubbornness.
But, without addequate practice and game experience either of the young quaterbacks could easily implode. But, I don't see what we have to lose. Can we catch lighting in a bottle with JG and win out. You and I don't think that is going to happen, but Pruitt apparently does.
I think Pruitt is fixing to get a big dose of reality and it will not be pretty. Will JG out play Trask, Mond, Franks, or Nix ? Ummmm - is it basketball season yet?

Both would have a significant chance of playing UT every year for that matter.

Now you are drifting into conspiratorial waters -- which I completely dismiss regarding Saban , but it is way easier to defend Tennessee on third down than virtually any other team in the world largely because of the QB. Maurer is a risk to scramble and would have to be addressed by the defense. I would even be in favor of playing JG on first and second down and bring in Maurer on third down vs. watching JG throw a missile behind a receiver running a 5 yd slant.

HB is the likely starter next year. He’s not going anywhere. I doubt he committed to UT under the preconditions our expectations that he would be the starter year 1.
Not if JG comes back. We all know he isn't going pro, despite the couple of "stat" guys who dig for numbers to defend him after every loss.
