The WRASSLIN’ Thread

Look l enjoy watching Darby and his antics but him wearing the strap is kinda like WCW putting the strap on the Disco Inferno or WWE putting the strap on Papa Shango back in the day...
You're way off base with this opinion. Darby is a good wrestler, has been in the upper midcard and has been one of the most over guys in AEW since the beginning. Him winning last night is more comparable to Mankind winning the title on RAW.

I'm sorry, but that was garbage. That was akin to the finger poke of doom.
The finger poke of doom in storyline was Nash willingly laying down for Hogan. What you saw last night was a surprise squash. MJF in storyline didn't let Darby win, he was caught off guard by Darby hitting the low blow.

I felt like they went out of their way to protect MJF storyline wise. Max didn't know about the match until he got there, it was Darby's home field, his family was there, Sting was there, and Darby was full go amped and max was flat footed. Heck even the random mic malfunction made it seem like it just wasn't Max's night and he'd stepped into a perfect storm. Everything the whole night was pointing to a tilte change. Which is precisely why I thought it wouldn't happen lol.

I don't think he'll have it too long and I'mnot a big fan myself. I think this was just a special hometown moment in front of family and bringing in Sting was a special touch. Plus,he's really popular so this was a good time to pull the trigger.

Plus MJF won't be caught off guard by Darby again. I agree with other's explanation of the finish.

Maybe Max wants to take a few weeks off to quote" make sweet love to his wife" ...🫠
Darby is just super over and this is a great way to get folks talking about AEW during WrestleMania week. If this thread is any indication, that's mission accomplished. My guess is MJF will have the title back sooner rather than later.

I've made it known I'm not a Darby fan, but that was a neat little moment. The execution wasn't something I cared for and him cracking earlier in the night made it pretty obvious what was coming. A Darby/Chiampa fued doesn't exactly scream big time...maybe that plays out on TV. I am interested in Darby vs Swerve, but beyond that, the heel/face dynamic doesn't allow for much that would be all that interesting unless they quickly revisit MJF. Feel free to change my mind...I want to be cool with it, but Darby has just never been my cup of tea.

The title picture is pretty interesting, despite Darby not having much in the way of an obvious big fued. Kenny is clearly winding down; it'd be a shame if he didn't hold it again. Ospreay has the Wembley moment coming in the next year or so. Swerve and Hangman, for my money, are the two most legit title contenders in the company at any time. Mox is always lurking. MJF is above just about anything else. I've really become a fan of Andrade and how he seemingly cares more in this run. At some point Okada needs a long run. Guys like Brodie King, Takeshita, and Fletcher are on the verge of breaking through. I think Joe is probably past being a legit threat for the title.

Lets say Darby gets 6 months and 3 or 4 real fueds...where do they go with that?

Loved the moment. MJF is a real one for that.

Don’t think the squash hurts MJF at all. Hell, Brodie King beat him even faster. It works with his gimmick IMO. Get him quick before he can play his games.

I’d bet MJF wins it back at DoN in New York.
