The whining fans

Replace Pruitt with Butch or Dooley, and I have seen this exact crybaby story...

"We got us a coach, y'all"
"It may take a while"
"Gets his players"
"Whiny fans"

You follow the chart more than Butch did...
And it only took you four games to quit on this coach and team and hop on the Fire Pruitt bandwagon. Talk about following the chart. Congrats. And if you’re truly done with Tennessee, as you posted, I’m surprised to see you still here.

I agree,
Most of the complainers, whiners probably don't go to games and have never played football...

So you have to not only attend but have also played football to have a valid opinion of the game. Please tell me how your time playing for Nobody Gives a **** High makes you an expert.

I don't even know what "Vol Calls" is, but I'm not local.
Hard to call when you're deployed to Kuwait or elsewhere in a war zone.
I don't recall any personal whines either.
About 8 minutes prior to making this post you stated this fanbase deserved to whine. About what? 4 games into a season with a team that most sensible people know is gonna require one helluva a rebuild that may very well take a minimum of 3 yrs.? Welcome to reality.......whine on brother!

This staff isn’t above criticism. No staff is. They get paid a lot of money to do a job. What we saw on Saturday was abysmal and Pruitt is ultimately responsible. He needs to be able to hold this team together through November and show some improvement. I think he has to do a better job of getting our guys ready to play because I thought we came out really tight against Florida. I also think a lot of the mistakes fall on the players. Regardless, calling for firings already is asinine.

I didn't say he is responsible for every recruit that may be underdeveloped by Butch. However, as I already said, people that pay their tickets and buy TN products, etc. have every right to complain at a loss. I see very few people targeting the players specifically but if my son was half-assing and not giving his all I would definitely have words with him about it. I could care less that they're young men. Men their age have been placed in tougher situations and in leadership roles in combat environments for centuries. They should be earning their scholarship and benefits by playing their best, and clearly Pruitt said some did and some weren't playing their best the whole time.
I'm going to say it again if it makes you unhappy then quit doing it. No human with any common sense should have any high expectations with these players and coaches. Heck they don't even know what to expect and they're just starting to feel one another out. Good things aren't going to happen with this team overnight and Pruitt didn't get the job in time to do any serious recruiting this year.

I really don't understand how fan displeasure can be characterized as whining after 20 years without an NC / SEC championship, 10 years without a Division championship, and nearly 2 years without a single SEC win.

These "whining" Tennessee fans that will never be satisfied aren't complaining about barely missing the college playoff. They've showed up to everything but the MTSU caliber games the end of Dooley's tenure and the last games of the Jones/Hoke era. They brought their families across the Cumberland Plateau, up from the Sequatchie Valley, out of the Mountains of Upper East Tennessee and from Western North Carolina. They've paid for tickets, parking, lodging, and food. In return, they've been given a .500 football team with no championships. The past 6 years, they've been given a 2 - 4 record vs. Vanderbilt in the last 6, having lost the last two.

This is an awful football team right now. Probably worse than last year. Its been a barely above .500 program for a decade, and it will go south of that in 2 weeks. Even if you give Pruitt the benefit of the doubt, he's a first time head coach because we bungled a hire when we were first to market with the deepest pool of proven talent at the head coach spot in at least 20 years.

This isn't whining. An upset fan is a realistic fan.

act exactly like the whining players and team they criticize ... the whining fans will just pick up their pads and leave if things don't go they way they want them to go. Pot calling kettle black if I ever saw it. They turn out to be just like what they say they despise.

Well, from what coach Pruitt just said it sounds like a REAL COACH to me trying to be honest with everyone. Didn't throw players under the bus nor did he the coaches BUT he did place the responsibility at everyones feet including him and his staff for Saturdays play.

I did not like the play calling at all but COACH PRUITT I AM BEHIND YOU 150 % ALL THE THE WAY. Fans we got us a great coach. It's going to be awhile but Pruitt is the one.

Sounded to me the heart and soul of the team came to his office to watch film and accept responsibility and try to PULL TOGETHER to improve. I think the fans should do the same.

If the core of the team moves in tandem then others will begin to follow. THANK YOU COACH PRUITT FOR TAKING ON THE TOUGH JOB OF COACHING THE TENNESSEE VOLS .

Did you go to the game!!?
Did you see the game on TV?
Fans are not the problem here. Whining fans? You are delusional. Vols are lucky they even have fans at all right now. This is the absolute worst BS Vols have ever been a part of. It is absolutely unacceptable and the fans are abused every week. Way to go we beat ETSU! get real. This team doesn't deserve to wear the orange.

Honestly, I hate these kinds of threads. Posters end up generically referencing other posters and misrepresenting what they’ve posted. I don’t even know who half of these type of posts are directed toward.

And there are some fans who can’t deal with anything critical directed toward the coach. So it’s both sides.

All fair. Tennessee fans should be upset with where the program is. But most of that needs to be directed toward those responsible.

Yeah.. That guy just didn't get what i said. Not many calling for Pruitt's head other than the same ole people. I was merely pointing out that he's probably not going to receive as much patience and good will as the other 3 awesome coaches we've had. The fans have fatigue will it all. You saw it in the stands Saturday night. I really wouldn't want to be Jeremy Pruitt right now.

I’ll whine if I want to. I’m 62 and have been a Tennessee fan for as long as I can remember (55 years). This is the worst 16 game (last year to this year) in the history of the program.

Don’t sugar coat it. We suck right now and if the ship isn’t righted within a year (i.e. show really strong signs of life) the program will be in major serious trouble. Not that it isn’t already.

I agree. Pruitt’s in a tough spot. And our fans are tired of being patient. Me included.

Why may I ask am I not upset when I've been there done that? I've done my share of complaining on here about some things and bought tickets and not used them. I think the difference is being able to distinguish between reality and fantasy. I had no idea that UT would play as bad as it did Sat. nite but 5 days later it's off to Athens. All upset fans were forewarned about this team that did not win a conference game at all last year and there is no miracle worker of a coach with the ability to change it quickly.

We’re the 13th best team in a 14 team league that is considered the strongest in the country. I’d say we’re knee deep in trouble right now. It’s not an easy fix, and nobody knows if Pruitt is the guy or not. I hope he is, but that’s all I have right now, hope.

I totally agree and I think in the notes from the presser you posted Pruitt manned up to that and laid it all out in the open. I actually have seen a little improvement from some of the individual players. Alexis Johnson seems to be improving. I thought some of the D backs are improving a little. I give big credit to Pruitt for not attempting to play JJ Peterson until he is able to go. The temptation was probably huge but he has JJ best interest at heart...so a few examples...( disclaimer ) I haven't watched a rerun of the game yet !}

But, it is the same posters crying about them crying. Has been with all of them. Same ones. Lol, looks like they'd get tired if it or at least learn that it ain't doing no good.

You don't consider Pruitt responsible for getting this team to show improvement as the season progresses? To show improvement over the abysmal performances of 2017?

No he wouldn’t.
Yeah "whining" fans, we were "whining" when Dooley was coach, whining with Butch was coach. Cause they deserved all that money right. And we deserved to pay for tickets to watch losers right?
You call it whining if you want. I call it having actual standards and not accepting ********.

Why King Genius as I have told others you just suit right up and head down to vol calls at Calhouns or just call in and you give them the game plan to win out the rest of the season and give them your name and phone #. Sounds as if you been around long enough to do just that. If you appear at Calhouns make sure you bring your credentials ....and yes I watched the game and will watch this coming Saturday also...looking for improvement too...

There is no more reason to think that you are right than there is to think the person who wants to fire Pruitt and hire Fulmer is correct. You are jumping to conclusions just like the people you are criticizing. Hypocrisy is not a virtue.

No, Hillbilly, the OP is more right. Because he's standing beside our coach, supporting him.

Jeremy Pruitt may not end up being the right guy for us long-term. But right now, he is the guy. And we ought to support our players and coaches while they wear orange, stay true to them. That's a pretty important human value.

So yeah, OP is getting it right.

your not at the practices to see exactly what Pruitt has to work with. He knows his team better than what you observe on the field of play. He knows the reasons but he doesn't lambast the kids for the fans sakes.

Not only has UT football changed in the last 20 yrs, most of the athletic department/teams have too...

People who are just getting on this ride...I sympathize, in a way....I get the frustration, but this is far beyond a couple of legends(Fulmer, Summit) being replaced...it’s deeper..

We are all tired of becoming a joke...laughing stock...

Not sure who/what the answer is, but I have a good feeling that PF will see it through...not many care more, imo..
