The Weightlifters Thread

Had a multiple offender tonight. Dude was wearing a belt, literally screaming and dropping the weight dead lifting 225 pounds. There has to be some sort of agreed upon ballpark of weight to be lifting and acting like that.

Some times I feel like I'm the "starer". My mind goes off into space and I'm looking in a general direction. Sometimes when I come to I notice somebody is in my line of sight, and probably creeped out.

I've had to adjust since hurting my shoulder. I have to keep my elbows tight now when doing overhead and chest work. Kinda sucks but the close grip bench is jacking my triceps up.

Lifted late tonight, went at 1230. Everything went better than expected. Broke through a 3-4 month dead-lift plateau and hit a PR, 420. Nothing crazy, but I'm happy for now.

That is awesome! Good job!

For me, nothing beats the guy that grabs a set of DBs and then does their set while hovering over the rack.

I can't stand "multiple station guy." Start to use the squat rack, "sorry bro, using that." Start to use the smith machine, "sorry bro, using that too." I want to smack those bishes.

It's a pet peeve of mine, but I do occasionally violate. Sometimes every bench/station near the DB's is taken, so basically to do 1 set of shrugs, I'd have to carry 90 lb dumbbells for about 20 paces, and then bring them back when I'm done?....I'll hover.

Also, if the gym is empty I like to lean on the DB rack to do DB rows. I can hit it from a good angle like that.

I wear a belt when I lift because of back problems, but I definately do not grunt and scream or anything like that. I hate guys like that.

The other day some dude was hanging from the squat rack with one arm and lifting a dumbell with the other. Not sure what it's called. Annoyed the hell out of me when I wanted to squat.

People just do not have gym etitique, they think they can do whatever they want.

That's understandable. It's the guy that does twenty rep curls with 20s or a circuit of different shoulder raises that can't take a few steps back that kill me.

My biggest pet peeve is people not cleaning up their weights. It's by far the worst breach of gym etiquette because it's so rampant. I wonder if even half the people at the gym put their weights away consistently?

I doubt it. My girl works as a fitness coordinator/trainer and she complains about no one racking the weights constantly. The gym staff is always having to follow lifters around picking up after them like toddlers.

Bend at the knees and keep the back straight. If you bend at the waist, support and let yourself down with your hand on the weight rack or station youre at

My gym tries to regulate on people but it usually never works. My fiancee used to work there and she would have to clean off weights. Whenever she is in the gym with me I have to clean off peoples' weight that they leave on. On time she told some dude to clean off his damn weight and he was like everyone leaves a 45 on each side of the bar ( I was not there at this time). She told the manager and he kicked the guy out because he does it all the time.

A lot of people leave 45s on each side on the bench press & I'm cool will that. If you're benching less than 135 you should probably stick to machines. Back to pet peeves, I hate it when somebody puts 2.5s on leg press or hammer strength & leaves them.

I don't like those little square weights that people put on the machines. Can you really not go up another 5 lbs and just use the peg like you are supposed to?

BTW, I see Chris Sanders, former Titan WR at the gym all the time. Dude is nasty strong. Does sets of pullups with 3 45's on a homemade belt. One on each hip and one in the front.

Yeah, definitely some violations are more egregious than others. Like the guy who leaves 16 plates on the leg press machine. Women probably use that more than men. Leaving 16 plates for a female to clean up is totally bush league.

And usually doesn't even lift the weight. Load the sled with plates only to barely unlock their knees. Not impressive.

The easiest way for a beginner to get stronger is compound barbell movements so completely disagree with your machines comment.

I haven't used a machine in a very long time and cannot bench 135, seriously. Mainly shoulder problems, but also a general lack of interest in bench is to blame.
