A proper shrug. None of that shoulder rolling s*#%!

Besides the first 2 reps his focus is all on the positive part of the motion and there's no focus on the static or the negative. Not everybody agrees with me on the importance of the negative, so take it FWIW.

I think if you can isolate the muscle while rolling, why not?

Lol. A negative on a shrug? There's like a 3 inch rom. I think negatives are important but not for every lift or every workout or every rep.

Yeah, small rep range to focus on, but the static position is probably where I feel I get the most work with shrugs.

I shrug & hold with BB & DB shrugs & that works pretty good. There's like a hammer strength squat machine I use for traps too. It's the pads on each shoulder but instead of squatting I stand & shrug. It works pretty good too because you're not having to focus on holding the weight. You can also get some sort of negative out of it.

Good tip. Hadn't thought of that. Another nice way to hit traps is shrugs with the smith machine and you hold the bar behind your back.

Hurt my shoulder/back pretty badly doing cleans yesterday, probably as a result of poor form. My friend/trainer was watching me and couldn't tell what I did wrong, though. I lost my balance and fell backwards. Left shoulder is pretty badly bruised now.

I've been making major gains in deadlift lately. Still way shy of my PR in high school, but I'm coming along quite well.

Are you doing crossfit?

Are you doing crossfit?

I'm not set in any routine specifically, I just go and exercise. My friend does a lot of crossfit exercises with me, but he hates crossfit. He has a whole anti-crossfit spiel. I guess I'm doing a 5x5 routine mixed with crossfit exercise. A lot of kettlebell work, too.

Good, I was gonna say your problem could be ridiculously high reps. Form goes to ****.

When I decide to rep-out, it's always at low weight for that very reason. However, I was only lifting like 95lbs. This was the second time I've tried to clean since high school, so I definitely need to work on it more. The previous reps looked fine, according to him.

I really enjoy going later too. I get off work at 8 on fridays and won't get to the gym until 9 or 930. Feels good being the only one there. Always seem to have a good lift too.

Developed a nasty blister under a callus rather quickly last night while doing deadlifts and it tore on my last set. Sumbish kept waking me up all night from the pain. Got a new PR on DL, though.
