The Weightlifters Thread

Really? We're in a thread about weightlifters and your chart you posted says "bodybuilders - 5-8%." Don't seem like genetics plays a big role here either compared with hard work. Good try though.

Not everything is a battle of wits. It was actually kind of a compliment about your genetics. You said it's "pretty easy to maintain 7%". Bodybuilders destroy their bodies with a strict diet to get to 5-8%. Now you are saying it takes hard work. I agree with your current statement.

BTW, 3rd week of power/hypertrophy training and I did a personal best on flat bench yesterday. 245 lbs x 3 with no spotter and good form. Not bad for this ectomorph.

And this is probably a "well duh" recent discovery of mine, but wrist straps make a huge difference in training back.

How's that going so far?

Yes, they do. Just make sure you're doing full forearm workouts on the side.

I plan on getting some straps soon, but I wouldn't go overboard on them. As long as I can handle the weight, I won't use them.

I like it so far and I feel like I'm making gains. I really look forward to the power upper body day.

And yes, I'll have to stay on top of my forearms if I use straps on back exercises.

I said its harder to achieve 7% than it is to maintain it. If a bodybuilder is "destroying" his body to get to 8%, he's wasting his time competing.
Achieving 7% is hard because in addition to working out you're having to create healthy dieting habits, which the primary problem is sugar withdrawals.
Maintaining 7% is easier because once you get there you've already established an overall healthy routine.

Had my best workout by far today. Went in with a no-bull**** attitude and had plenty of energy. I probably should have done even more. Still haven't done front squats, though. I never had a chance to use the squat rack. Has anyone done them on a Smith machine before?

I haven't and I wouldn't try it.

I usually have a tough time getting my hood up after arms and/or shoulders... It's kinda funny to watch. I have to sort of throw my arm behind my head to grab teh hood.

I have a hard time reaching for the seatbelt after an arm workout in my wife's tiny Mercury Cougar. It's such a pain in the butt.

I've done them that way. Really takes the stabilizers out of the movement. I would recommend doing them in the squat rack. More effective that way.

K. I'm just a little worried about balance/stability.

****ty workout this morning. I should have eaten something last night.

I had a great workout today. NO was working like charm today. Romanian deadlifts kicked my arse though.

Everyone and their grandmother was at our gym today and it was quite frustrating. I need to start going at really odd hours of the day.
