The VN Recipe Thread

Another way to save cash and come up with ideas is to get a Sunday paper and clip some coupons. Keep em in an envelope and take them to the store with you. Before long you'll have a stash built up and can plan your shopping out.
Not to mention there are online grocery coupon sites. Coupon bug comes to mind.

I'll have to do that, thanks VMB
I'm sure you can find a great recipe for yellow rice. Just be sure to avoid the yellow snow.
I'd be happy to take any suggestions

Thanks Hman but, if you have to print them out I can't

I really would like to try something with that yellow rice Sly referred me to. I've never had it before.

That was me. I make it 2 paks at a time and keep it in the fridge. There are so many things you can do with it. I add garlic, onion, broccoli, jalapeno and chicken for a snack. Sometimes in the mornings I'll add a scrambled egg or make what I call a "poor mans Carbonara" for breakfast. I've mixed smoked gouda, diced tomatoes and roasted red peppers with it and stuffed a sirloin steak wrapped in prosciutto.

Yeah, they would need to be printed but since you obviously have a computer a printer can be had these days really cheaply. New ones can cost as little as $50 but you can get one at a thrift store for about 5 or 10 bucks.

BTW. I didn't say stuffing the sirloin was a good idea, I just said I've done it. It wasn't "restaurant worthy", but it worked...once.

Anyone ever use Recipe Key?

It is a site that allows you to plug in the ingredients you have in your home to match up with a specific recipe. It is great... for cleaning out the pantry.

No, I haven't. It's more fun my way.

I mentioned that and Dad said "it's froze together idiot, you can't break it apart" He thinks it's like concrete apparently

Was he planning on cooking all of it at the same time when he froze it?

I've got about 3 or 4 little pieces in water thawing right now. I hope it's the right amount

I got two of these for the rice

Follow the instructions on the back of the package. It will give the option to use butter or oil, use the olive oil. I think it's 2 tbls.

This is what I do. Put 2 tbls olive oil in the pot. Dice 3 garlic cloves and drop in the oil. Put the pan on low heat until the garlic starts to simmer. After the garlic starts to get just a little brown, add the instructed amount of water and turn the heat to high. When the water starts boiling add the rice, cover and turn the heat to low. Check and stir every 2-3 minutes. It should just barely bubble. I think the instructions say 15-20 minute ccok time. About 10 minutes into cooking add onion ( cut them in about 1" pieces) when the water is absorbed it's done. Chop up your chicken in bite sized pieces and mix in. Salt and pepper to your taste.

You can also just add the water to the pot, add the oil and drop 3-4 whole cloves in the water with the rice. It's good either way, I just like the roasted flavor better.

That's the bigger bag. So my measurements above are incorrect. Use what it says on the back. Still use oil instead of butter and make it 4-5 cloves of garlic.
