The Uniforms last night were..

You guys are crazy!:bash: I think the smokey grey uniforms are excellent. I don't understand the idolization of the white helmet. The white helmet ruined the look of the Adidas smokey grey jerseys.

Also, a few points need to be made: Where do you think the name Smokey for our mascot came from? Should we just call him Orange? :birgits_giggle: Don't act like this isn't part of our history.
Smokey Grey is an official color. Deal with it.:peace2:
The helmets look amazing. They look a lot like how the 'smoggy smoke' (smog is not white, btw.... :thud:) looks over the Smokey Mountains of east Tennessee.

Who agrees? I know it's rare to see someone intelligent here.:hi:

Go Vols! :clapping:

Smokey got his name because that was literally the name already given to the dog when he was chosen as the mascot during a game. It had absolutley nothing to do with any color of Tennessee.

also, there "ain't no smoggy smoke on Rocky Top".

You don't know Tennessee history at all do you? Learn your history before you post drivel and accuse others of not being intelligent.

Just because they used gray in 1903 because 70% of fabric was already gray at the time doesn't mean gray is an official color. Let me know when you see gray flowers growing on the hill.

Zactly...I vote for orange and white floral print with pastel helmets.

As I posted way back in this thread, I'd love to see the Crockett logo used on a special helmet once. Kind of how Ok St did with the Cowboy logo a couple of weeks ago.

I hope we don't make any major changes to them next year. I would just want to see us have an away version so the Vols could wear them twice a year without messing with the home unis twice.

I have to say I thought our unis looked incredible, and my dad, who does not like crazy unis (think Oregon and Baylor), even thought we looked nice. The smokey's on the helmets, although not clear on TV, was a nice touch and looked great.

Agreed the smoky's on the hemet could be seen at all on TV
Maybe we should just go straight smokey gray.

The smokey greys are bearable with the grey helmet. Terrible with the white helmet. Would rather keep it traditional, but if the players like them, then who am I to say. They're the ones out there putting there bodies on the line.

I liked them overall. Wasn't a big fan of the black on the shoulders. Maybe it was the shape of it but I just don't think it was a good choice. I definitely agree that without any white on the uniform, the helmet looks much better in grey.

I hope to see them again.

Honestly didn't pay much attention to the uniforms....was more enthralled with watching a team come together and play a pretty darn good game.

The thing that stood out to me was the fact we still have varying colors of Orange. The lettering on the unis and the coaches pull overs are different.

Additionally I saw a trainer in a gray cap, it's was a different shade of gray as well.
Agreed. The basketball team has always been like that. The jerseys will be a different offset of orange compared to the shoes. That's why (assuming here) the football team doesn't rock orange Nike cleats.

So you would be OK if UT came out with the Orange, Regalia, & Torch combination? After all, it's on the color palette. GIVE ME A BREAK! The marketing department put that out a couple of years ago so people like you would go, "See. Smokey Grey is an official color."

Go look at any media guide and tell me what the "official colors" are....There are only 2 colors listed: Orange & White.

With that said, I don't have a problem with a different uni from time to time. Just don't try to sell it to me as an "official" color as a tribute to the past. Back then there were only 2 colors on the color wheel...black & white.
please tell me more. like, what was it like to see the model T for the first time, or what using a telephone was like?

I liked the Black uniforms much better. With the right color / matching orange they would be an awesome addition for once every year or Two

The gray was rather blah and did not pop. I don't mind mixing in alternate unis -- just did not think those look very good (would have been ok maybe if we did with the PiINK out since the gray would not clash as bad as our Orange would with pink

If/when they wear the grey again, I'd rather see orange pants with the grey shirt and helmet.
Also like when Tennessee goes with orange shirts and pants.

Liked the uniforms...LOVED the helmet. Wish they would come up with a white helmet with those Smokey Mtns shadowed in!

At the end of the day, if the young men wearing these uniforms like them...isn't that really all that matters?

GBO!!

To all of those who mentioned the notion of mixing the grey with some of the other pieces, I agree. When they introduced them, I messed around in PS with the idea. I posted it here, but it doesn't hurt to be in this thread.

Personally, I like any of the three better than the solid grey, but it's just perference.

Knowledge is power. This color was not on the palette in 2009 when the black jersey debate happened. It is a recent addition. Our official colors have always been orange and white.

ah so it has nothing to do with not liking grey, but not liking any kind of change. sheesh
