The Uniforms last night were..

I'm a fan of the all orange. Pants and jersey.

I agree. I remember the first time I seen the all orange. It was in 99 when Memphis came to town. I remember Fulmer saying the players were asking if they could go all orange for the game. And if I remember right, they kept a lid on it through the week. And come Saturday it was Awesome to see our boys coming through the Pride of the Southland band T sporting the all Orange! The only bad thing about that game, is it was on payper view & Memphis made the game a lit bit tighter than us Vols fans wanted.

I really hated the uniforms. I don't know where "gray" came from and why it is used.
Look at the picture above, the 1903 wore gray uniform with orange stripes. They got the color from that. The helmets actually have the smoking mountains around them.

The thing that stood out to me was the fact we still have varying colors of Orange. The lettering on the unis and the coaches pull overs are different.

Additionally I saw a trainer in a gray cap, it's was a different shade of gray as well.

smokey grey IS in fact one of our colors. knowledge is power....

So you would be OK if UT came out with the Orange, Regalia, & Torch combination? After all, it's on the color palette. GIVE ME A BREAK! The marketing department put that out a couple of years ago so people like you would go, "See. Smokey Grey is an official color."

Go look at any media guide and tell me what the "official colors" are....There are only 2 colors listed: Orange & White.

With that said, I don't have a problem with a different uni from time to time. Just don't try to sell it to me as an "official" color as a tribute to the past. Back then there were only 2 colors on the color wheel...black & white.

I didn't have a problem with them. However I am sure they where a nightmare for the spotters up in the booth. The numbers were hard for this old man to read.

At least the orange on the Nike jerseys was consistent. I swear there were 3 different shades of orange each week with adidas. Undershirts were different from helmet which were different from jersey numbers. The orange looked really good against the 2 shades of grey we used on tbe Nikes. I thought it was drastically different without being distracting like Oregons jerseys.

I love this rhetoric. I have 3 orange nike shirts. Every one is a different shade. It's called fabric issues not a color issue. Stop using this line.

I now find myself in the position that I use to make fun of my dad for...Its getting harder and harder to match up socks. So I ask you my fellow Vol fans. Are the band uniforms navy blue or black?

Just because they used gray in 1903 because 70% of fabric was already gray at the time doesn't mean gray is an official color. Let me know when you see gray flowers growing on the hill.

Exactly. Some people are so naive. That story was put out by the marketing dept.

Like I mentioned before, just look in any UT media guide and you'll only see Orange & White listed as the colors.

Good post. Going back to the dark ages, before the forward pass and before any team had built up any tradition doesn't make black an official color. Teams wore what was available back then. Did General Neyland ever have any black on any of his uniforms. Maybe the shoes.

Apparently General Neyland didn't get the memo that Smokey Grey was an official color:

Awesome. I'm surprised theres not more talk about the Tennessee uniforms. I thought the black and gray went really well with Tennessee orange. Not to mention that was the first time Tennessee has not worn the tradition white helmet, in quite some time.

Who else liked the uniforms? If not, why didn't you like them? Do you have any alternate uniform colors in mind?

Loved the unis, especially the helmet. Players looked bad arse.

They were hideous!

Ever since the pronoun memo, my trust in Tennessee marketing has waned.

Really liked the helmets, but didn't think the jerseys looked very good. I think it was the color of orange against the grey. I have no problem with an alternate look, but this wasn't great to me. Keep trying Nike.

Yeah the 1903 jerseys were black, and 1914 jerseys were gray with orange stripes on the sleeves.

Hey, how about that? Looks like our OW 'tradition', isn't.

I like the pre-'51 unis. A reworking of either the '03 or '42 schemes I'd consider a welcome change to the dominant white and orange. Time to shake up tradition again. Or just keep the new grays for home with (maybe) a subtle inclusion of white somewhere.
