The truth behind Joc Bruce

If a dude is so tortured by being punched in the face one time I don't want him on a field full of SEC players where he'll feel way more than that force multiple times per game.

this!!! X100000000000000000

i don't know what happened and don't really need to know....jbruce is gone and personally--i'm sick of the folks on this board speculating that jcroom did something wrong just because he hit someone in the lockerroom. Please don't assume the worst about him just because he kicked a mouthy punk's butt!

Jcroom's character is not on trial here--and i don't think i've ever heard a disparaging word about jcroom in his entire career at ut....

But, what it says to me is that jbruce is more fluff than tough...and if he would have been tough enough to play in the sec, and been mad enough to want to do something about getting hit in the lockerroom--he would have stayed and attempted to get payback on the field in pads....like maybe in the circle of life drill....

Either way--this is sec football and young men who are playing it...i don't expect nor require them to be nice to one another 100% of the time...and fights will and do happen....sometimes on the field and sometimes in the lockerroom....

It is more important for the team's success to have the individual players understand the chain of command and respect those in leadership....because that's the way football teams function...

It appears that jbruce refused to acknowledge the chain of command or respect his elders--and i say kudos to jcroom for giving him a life lesson!

:salute:

Flame away.....

After reading this entire thread (what was I thinking?) it is my opinion that a couple posters in it are actually Caitlyn Jenner. No wonder things in this country are going to crap with the pacifist drivel being spouted. And after a long career in criminal justice I don't think I have ever seen someone in the wrong tell mommy the truth. When they run to mommy it is because they want mommy to fight the battle they could fight themselves. If JB ran to mommy and told her he was being bullied, especially in his circumstances, I'm glad he's gone.

A reality of life the PC police don't want or like to to admit is that when you're being a dik and running your mouth, sooner or later you will get popped..

On the bright side though, at the present rate of the pusification of America this will be eliminated soon.. Then anyone will be able to say anything to anybody (as long as it's within the realm of politically correct speech) without fear of reprisal..

Good times ahead... I can't wait.....

It's starting to look like Croom wasn't even involved according to folks much closer to the situation than the OP or Joc's mom.

Please link me to a credible report that Bruce put his hands on someone first. If he didn't then it it simply assault over some perceived lack of respect. That should not be the proper response for adults and if it's tolerated by the staff then it is essentially being taught as the correct response

You assuming this is some pro-Bruce crusade couldn't be more wrong. It's simply about how to handle yourself as a contributing member of society

What happens in a locker room full of 18-22 year old elite athletes is very different from what happens in normal society. I know it is hard for nerds who have never played a sport competitively to understand this, but fights happen in competitive environments. Some personalities and egos don't mesh, and when you have 100 egos walking around in an physically competitive environment clashes are bound to happen.

what does this even mean? That you're against equal rights for minority groups?

In a locker room or in practice, especially with the sun blazing, it's hot and your exhausted, tempers always flare. There is 85 young men with testosterone in a full contact sport. There is always punches being thrown, some chokes, helmets thrown, choice words, grabbed face mask slams, and other fighting. Generally after it's all said and done, you run your 110's and hug it out and move on because we are brothers. Other times some can't get past it, so it's best for all parties to move on. I don't know the situation, but I do know what I stated is facts. Bullying is completely seperate from the things I stated.

Just who do you think YOU are talking about the Tennessee Locker Room like you might have actually been in it??!!

Scanning through 35 pages I'm kinda disappointed MzTerry didn't make an appearance. However, watching all the suck ups to her just because it's Croom has at least been entertaining.

As for the OP, you have no idea what went on 20 years ago from upper classmen, most of these kids would have went crying to their moms. C'mon, it's football. Turn in your man card.

Just had a conversation with a guy at the gym today who played college ball. We discussed this very topic and both laughed at people thinking that this incident qualifies as 'bullying'. His quote was, I guess the majority of the team 'bullied' each other seeing as though almost everyone in a football locker room has a couple of throw downs during their time playing the game. I told him that was pretty much my experience in not only football but other sports as well. People successful in athletics generally have an edge or they don't last very long or seeing a lot of action.

IMO not enough people here are concerned about how badly Joc could have damaged Croom's fists with his head. Hopefully his hands will be ok.

Not if Bruce hit him first. If.

You don't have to actually hit me first for me to be able to retaliate and correctly claim self defense. All you have to do is put me in a place where I *reasonably* believe that you are about to attack me. I can respond to that threat with the same level of force that you are threatening. I don't have to retreat, and I don't just have to stand there.

So, if you're standing there, fists clinched, claiming that you are about to hit me, and then you lunge seeing if I will "flinch" (a popular game when I was in high school), I can absolutely bust your chops without you even swinging (as long as my fear of your attack is *reasonable*). At least, that's the general theory behind the criminal code of Tennessee.

Think about it in the extreme: If you are threatening to kill me and have a gun pulled, do I have to wait to die until I can retaliate with deadly force?

DISCLAIMER: this is not legal advice, and I am not your lawyer.

Correct. Aka: The force continuum.

I'm not saying I know what the fight was over but as a vol fan for over 15 years . I would be pissed if a player that didn't know who we was 5 years ago tried to tell me about tradition !!!'
