The truth behind Joc Bruce

Actually according to the law Croom is in the wrong. Let's not romanticize what happened

If beating the hell out of a teammate behind closed doors is such a crime then Al Wilson is due a life sentence. You guys are making this out to be a bigger deal than what it really is. Joc got beat up for being disrespectful and now hes too embarrassed to come back and face everyone.

Bullying is so overplayed now. I don't remember kids being bullied too often when I was in school...at least not to the point where the media acts like it's one step down from terrorism. Do I remember some kids getting picked on? Of course, but it was never anything too physical or way over the line.

I just wish people would stop being so sensitive so I don't have to hear about bullying in every time I turn the tv on. Bullying does happen and has gotten worse with social media, but at the same time, it is definitely over blown.

And no comment on this situation. Would have liked to see Joc live out his dream and play for the Power T, but **** happens and nothing we can do ab it.

I wonder if your child would have wanted to go to class if Croom punched them in the mouth

I was punched in the mouth in high school by a older football player (but I punched back) and if I had wanted to quit my daddy woulda punched me even harder and momma woulda busted my *** all the way back to the field!! Now with that being said NO I am not, nor do I condone bullying and all that silly crap that goes on nowa days, but sometimes ya gotta stand up on your own 2 feet and hit back!! Poor guy needs to learn in a hurry cause life is full of those sucker punches in the jaw!!! Good luck to ya, wish it woulda worked out for ya!

You guys are sad you would think that someone would have some concerns about a kid getting bullied. But all that come out is good bye. And make jokes about him. If your family or child goes through this make sure you have the same attitude. Go VOLS

You know what else is bad. A clearly biased person taking one side of the story, and then spinning it on this site as the whole truth.

Jeez, this is a weird thread. The consensus (and it is nearly unanimous) is that Bruce deserved to get punched by someone twice his size for talking back and stepping on the T? We now officially believe that violence is the best reaction to disrespect?

Sure, we might say that it doesn't bode as poorly for Croom if the attack was provoked. Sure, we can say that Bruce wasn't exactly completely innocent. That makes a difference. But to sit around and praise Croom for clocking somebody is just insane.

And what is this whole "what happens in the locker room stays in the locker room" nonsense? It isn't Vegas. It isn't international waters. Do you think this holds for everything? If a player beat someone into a coma in the locker room? If there was legitimate persistent bullying? If they raped another player? Look, I get that a punch isn't as severe, but the "whatever happens in" mantra is absurd, and it is not that much less absurd just because the situation is less dramatic.

Unless Bruce punched him first, Croom screwed up. Croom deserved to be punished. And Croom sure as heck doesn't deserve to be praised, and lifted up as a hero of the program. Punching a much smaller freshman, somebody who was decent enough to take a blue shirt, and who seemed to love UT, is not heroic.

^ Never been around a big time college football team IMO

Upper class men/ leaders keeping younger guys in line has been and will continue to be part of college football. Highly charged environment with overload of testosterone.

Joc Bruce was involved in what could be called bullying.Jason Croom hit Joc extremely hard in his jaw reason behind it I dont know. But after that he complained of having headaches and a lot of discomfort. He told his mother about what happened which leads me to believe he was afraid. The coaches knew about this but his mother didn't follow up with them about the attack. The kid was let down by his mother as well as the coaching staff they did not protect him. I understand upperclassmen pick on the new guy but this was more. After this altercation he was late for class several times and was suspended and well deserved. But I do believe Joc being afraid of Croom played a major role in this. The mother and the coaches failed this kid. I didn't make this up I grew up with his mom. This is non bias thread so please don't take it as if I'm throwing anyone under the bus. 100% true info

Dude a senior made me wear icy hot on my balls and I wasn't allowed water from the same ******* seniors. I made it just fine. We need tougher kids. We live in a world where you better be able to handle ****. Move on, nothing to see here.

If he was my child he would have went to class. If he couldn't handle UT football I am fine with him finding the right fit. There are always two sides to a story and if punched it is highly unlikely Croom punched him unprovoked.

But, since he is gone - next Man up.

Guys punch guys unprovoked all the time. Just saying

I do not doubt anything you were told or heard from his mom but are you saying kids are ALWAYS 100% truthful with their mothers? Were you?

Assumption 1 "bullying"
Assumption 2 "let down by his mother as well as the coaching staff"
Assumption 3 "this was more"
Assumption 4 "Joc being afraid of Croom"
Assumption 5 "mother and coaches failed this kid"

Now let's look at the REAL facts/truth:

1. I'll stipulate that Croom hit Joc whether or not it was provoked and Joc did not take a swing at Croom first.

2. he was late for class several times and was suspended

That makes this post a little short on truth in my opinion.

Now I'm going to make a few assumptions of my own.

If you don't go to class, short of having an excuse from a doctor or some sort of emergency, you should be suspended if that is the rule for the team.

NOBODY failed this kid but HIMSELF. I do not buy all this crying because I was bullied crap and never have. I was the smallest guy in my class all through elementary school and was constantly "picked on" and pushed around by one particular kid that was bigger than everybody else. I never went crying to anyone and I took responsibility for my own actions and am a better person 40 years later because of it. I seriously doubt Jason Croom is in every class Joc has and being afraid is no excuse to miss class. The guy that picked on me WAS in the same class room all day long, every day for the entirety of elementary school and I still went to class EVERY single day without missing a day.

Unless you are watching something with your own eyes, I don't think you should be coming on here saying anyone's mother or coaches let anybody down because in REALITY, you do not know what happened and as has been demonstrated, there are not a lot of facts/truth to your original post. As the old saying goes sometimes, "discretion is the better part of valor" and keeping one's mouth shut is the proper course of action.

Agree with this 100%. Punching a guy in the face half your size isn't leadership (disrespect or not).

Also, I posted something similar to this, but it got deleted. I guess I used too many edited cuss words. Oh well.

In school I was moved up a couple grades so I was always the youngest and smallest kid in my class. I was 12 when I started high school and one day walking to gym class, a senior punched me and knocked me out for a couple seconds. He was easily twice my size and probably 6 years older than me. I never told anyone and the next day I took that same walk and every day for the rest of the year. I just acted like I wasn't afraid even though he terrified me. Bruce needs to grow a pair if you ask me. I don't think that's insensitive. But I'm sorry if it sounds that way.
