The truth behind Joc Bruce

To be fair to the kid if he did get his melon smashed he could have easily got a concussion which creates a whole new world of problems. And if people were ignoring it well, I could see not wanting to "play ball" so to speak.

I just cannot see Curt Maggit or Josh Dobbs sitting back and letting this happen.....

I'm sorry I came off that way I hope I am not labeled a bully also. I really don't want to hurt your or the OP's feelings. I know people are a little more sensitive in today's society.

even if we take this as a fact that he spoke to the mom ( not saying people lie on here - like the people who knew Gruden's wife etc). But In my experience when a kid is trying to justify to his mom why he quit school this is probably not the Whole truth.

I hear what you are saying....played ball....know the whole routine. Sometimes things are unprovoked because an upperclassman feels it's "his time to be on top"... The class thing is on Joc.....the headaches and discomfort thing isnt'....regardless if he was being "given guidance" by an upper classman. Had the incident resulted in a serious injury...the tone of this thread may have been different...

Either way.....a respect Hierarchy has to be maintained....it should be based on sacrifice and commitment. At the same time...they have to be smart about how they execute the lessons......

You guys are sad you would think that someone would have some concerns about a kid getting bullied. But all that come out is good bye. And make jokes about him. If your family or child goes through this make sure you have the same attitude. Go VOLS

Getting punched doesn't necessarily mean getting bullied. And Croom has no history of bullying other players that I am aware of. If he punched Bruce it likely means something happened between them that led to the punch. And I'm not saying that Bruce provoked it, only that I suspect that something happened that led to a ounch being thrown rather than this being a case of bullying.

If Croom was bullying him or punched him un provoked he needs to be dismissed. Those guys are cancer to a squad.

croom is not a cancer to anyone. Hes been a classy kid his entire career. Bruce started the entire confrontation from the story thats come out. All he had to do was listen to the older player telling him what to do.

If that's the case I totally agree with you.

Of course, nobody but those who were in the locker room know what really happened.
And, even those people might put a spin on it to favor the party they like more.
I do hate when this stuff gets out.
I will say that I personally root really hard for Croom for one reason.
His Momma.
She used to be a great addition to this board.
I miss her input.

The real story here isnt poor Joc got bullied, the real story is we have a group of upper classman who love and respect their football program and wont stand for anyone who doesn't feel the same. Its been far to long since UT has had that, sorry JB got laid out but it kinda sounds like he had it coming. So its not bullying, its locker room justice. Op your a freaking clown quit posting bad rumors.

Here's the problem:

The OP's story is seen though the lens of a son telling a mother telling what happened, and then retold by the mother about her son.

I don't think anyone is lying, but I don't know if I would call this The Truth.

Hopefully Croom will practice on Moseley, Sutton, Randolph and the other DBs. We need him experienced and ready to bully some opposing defenders this fall.

Jeez, this is a weird thread. The consensus (and it is nearly unanimous) is that Bruce deserved to get punched by someone twice his size for talking back and stepping on the T? We now officially believe that violence is the best reaction to disrespect?

Sure, we might say that it doesn't bode as poorly for Croom if the attack was provoked. Sure, we can say that Bruce wasn't exactly completely innocent. That makes a difference. But to sit around and praise Croom for clocking somebody is just insane.

And what is this whole "what happens in the locker room stays in the locker room" nonsense? It isn't Vegas. It isn't international waters. Do you think this holds for everything? If a player beat someone into a coma in the locker room? If there was legitimate persistent bullying? If they raped another player? Look, I get that a punch isn't as severe, but the "whatever happens in" mantra is absurd, and it is not that much less absurd just because the situation is less dramatic.

Unless Bruce punched him first, Croom screwed up. Croom deserved to be punished. And Croom sure as heck doesn't deserve to be praised, and lifted up as a hero of the program. Punching a much smaller freshman, somebody who was decent enough to take a blue shirt, and who seemed to love UT, is not heroic.

Mom ain't gonna help you out in D1 football unless it's Ricky Tidwell's momma.

Bobby Boucher had quite a bit of support too. It happens.

+1 to turambar85's last paragraph. Next time I have a disagreement with someone I'm going to punch them in the face. That's classy.
Momma told me 2 wrongs don't make a right! Lol
