The Trump Effect

Or it's just not spent. Better to just not use it right? It's not like there's a surplus of cash
it is not being 'spent', it is a loan..the gov't gets the money back and gains interest. It is not like money being 'spent' on paying interest on useless debt.

So the money never leaves the govt sheet and there's no risk! Where do these magic loans come from?

Things I learned today.

You are a libtard if you are against a govt 38 trillion in debt loaning over a billion dollars at below market rates....
your TDS does not allow you to see it is not just a loan, it is an investment in the US grid that is antiquated and needs to be upgraded to provide more needed power. The money will be paid back, hence the gov't is not losing money.

Socialism and gov't corruption as NGOs, green scams etc etc has created 38 trillion in debt costing a trillion in interest per year and growing...38 trillion squandered with nothing to show for it. At least with this loan more energy will be produced for public/private use and benefit.

the money for the loans was appropriated in Biden's Inflation Reduction Act scam. The money goes out in the form of a loan but comes back on the gov't sheet with interest.

Any loan has risk but in the GROK article the company involved has good assets and in good shape.....they could have gotten a loan from a bank but getting it from the gov;t saves them money and provides much needed power. The company has a 20 year contract with Microsoft to buy power the reactor will produce when it comes back online...there is your guaranteed money for the loan pay back.

Solyndra loans were an investment as well

The guy currently in office was responsible for a large chunk of that debt.

So when NextEraEnergy does the same thing (150B+ market cap), its not an investment in our grid?

By the way, Im against subsidizing NEE as well...

Your TDS is strong this morning. The "T" stands for Trump but the "DS" isnt Derangememt Syndrome

That's the same argument the green weenies used to provide our tax dollars to solar and wind farms.

if you are against the gov't making loans that will be paid back with interest then you should also be against the governments involvement in:

people's personal finances (social security and income taxes), people's healthcare (Medicare/Medicare/Obamacare), education of children, farmer's subsidies, disability benefits, housing, SNAP, FDA, FCC, EPA, lotteries, transportation, space exploration, FEMA, national parks, the arts, scientific research for diseases, labor laws, banking, DEI, USPS, maritime shipping, etc etc etc etc etc etc

You can stop trying to convince me. I’m on board.

Constellation Energy is a 100B market cap company. They dont need a subsidized loan with below market interesr rates....

If the .gov are bororwing at 4-5% and charging them less than that, we aint making money either...

it is not a subsidy in the form of just freely giving away money with no strings attached like snap. it is more closely related to being an investment in the country's electric grid producing needed power. The power grid, rare earth metals, etc are an important and strategic to the well being of this country.

I am for things like this that makes money for the gov't-taxpayer. I am against the left subsidizing green scam companies that aquander billions of taxpayer dollars on green scams then close up leaving the owners very wealthy...most likely the owners were leftists themselves.

Yep, Ive posted numerous times about the govt's involvement in these items.

Keep up the TDS Monica...

Solyndra loans were an investment as well

that was a green scam company,, what did it's financials look like?

grok:
Solyndra was a Fremont, California-based company that manufactured cylindrical solar panels using thin-film technology before ceasing operations in 2011. The company is known for a controversial government loan guarantee, receiving $535 million from the Obama administration in 2009. It was founded in 2005 by Christian M. Gronet and had subsidiaries including Photon Solar, LLC and Solyndra Fab 2 LLC.
Solyndra failed due to a combination of factors, including a sharp drop in the price of a key competitor component (polysilicon), its expensive and less efficient technology, and its inability to compete with cheaper rivals despite a large government loan. The company also faced financial struggles and may have misled officials about its prospects, contributing to its 2011 bankruptcy and shutdown.
Solyndra experienced significant losses and negative cash flow, with its own auditor raising "substantial doubt" about the company's ability to continue as a "going concern" in 2010. Despite these issues, the company continued to assure government officials and investors that it had good market momentum, a claim that was later shown to be false.
A Dem created mess.

grok: there is no publicly available evidence that Christian M. Gronet (also known as Chris Gronet), the founder and former CEO of Solyndra, is or was a registered Democrat or affiliated with the Democratic Party. Searches of campaign finance records (via FEC and OpenSecrets data), news articles, and biographical sources yield no mentions of his political party registration, voter affiliation, or personal political donations. While Solyndra received a $535 million loan guarantee from the Obama administration in 2009 (a Democratic initiative) and Gronet personally donated $1,000 to Sen. Barbara Boxer's (D-CA) reelection campaign in 2010, these appear to be business-related contributions rather than indicators of personal partisan alignment. The company's collapse in 2011 became a political flashpoint, with Republicans accusing the administration of favoritism, but investigations found no evidence of political corruption or criminal activity involving Gronet. Gronet, a Stanford-educated materials scientist and serial entrepreneur, has maintained a low public profile on political matters, focusing instead on cleantech ventures.

They need it to keep up the stock price, it would nosedive the second they announced that they were borrowing that much on the open market.

Which brings up another failing of the US.

again your TDS will not let you see that this is an investment for the county like rare earth metals, something that I s needed, required by the country for it survival. It is not squandering away money on green scams as the Dems did.

grok:
  • Nature of the Loan: It's a direct loan (not a loan guarantee) issued through the Energy Infrastructure Reinvestment (EIR) program, authorized by Congress in 2022 under the Inflation Reduction Act. LPO loans are designed to support innovative energy projects while ensuring taxpayer protection through full repayment. The program has a track record of high repayment rates—over 90% of historical LPO loans have been repaid on schedule.
  • Constellation's Financial Strength: DOE officials, including LPO head Greg Beard, emphasized that Constellation is an "investment-grade" company with strong credit, meaning it could secure private financing without government support. The loan primarily reduces borrowing costs to accelerate the project, but repayment is guaranteed by Constellation's assets and revenue streams, including a 20-year power purchase agreement with Microsoft to buy all output from the restarted reactor.

Damn Monica, you on a roll this morning..

Im for nuclear. They can get a private loan for this. Once again, 100B market cap company so it shouldnt be hard for them to get a market rate loan if it makes economic sense. Not for govt subsidizing them with below market rate....

The main Trump Effeft seems to be the exhaustion of his press secretary and his defenders moving from one self-inflicted wound to the next. Its a Crisis-De-Jour situation at the Trump WH.

so you are against gov't involvement in something that actually helps the country's grid (which is in bad shape) and at the same time does not lose the gov't any money. You are anti win-win scenarios?

What difference does it make who makes the loan as something good in fixing the grid comes from it?

Grok pointed out the loan primarily reduces borrowing costs to accelerate the project
The gov't under Trump can bypass other red tape issues to get this online as fast as possible

this is the left's fantasy of how things are being run. You miss the good old days of Biden wandering around not knowing where he was at or what he was doing? Biden's autopen running the country, 9% inflation, wars being started....
