The Topic That Will Never Die XIX

A Spanish speaking lady called on Friday, the receptionist didn't know what to do, she calls again today, i said I'd take it, figured out she was a client for another attorney in our office. Got an interpreter on the phone and she was being very difficult, saying she wants no problems, wants nothing to do with this, and will not work with us. What a pain.

I have wanted to Dooley to work out for us because of the type of person he is off the field. I have said before I think he is a good representive for UT and I think he is trying to recruit players not soley on talent but on character too. After watching Saturday night's game I am just not sure any longer about Dooley's coaching ability. I was trying to give him the benefit of the doubt looking at the situation he came in to, but I feel like this year he should be winning at least one of these bigs games. I think there is a combination of things that are causing these losses. Dooley not being able to coach the guys up in these big game situations, the players not knowing how to win in these games and there is a little bit (not much) talent difference in the teams that we are losing to.

I guess what I am trying to say is that as this season has gone on my faith in Dooley being able to get the job done here is getting smaller. I am not sure what it will take to completely dash my hopes for him here, but it's getting close.

This is spot on how I feel. With Dooley(if he can get the job done) it looks like it's gonna take 2 more years. Firing Dooley and starting ove is gonna take at least 2 more years IF the right guy is hired. Same boat either way.

I'm not sure how logical my mind is, but I have probably been thinking along the same lines until yesterday. It finally hit me that we will always be playing ranked opponents and it seems that our losses are not due to lack of talent any more. Two and a half years into his tenure, Dooley is 3 games under .500. That's pretty bad. I also understand that our defense is not good and we should give them time. However, the mistakes on offense and special teams are atrocious. Add to that the fact that our offensive line is amazing, our wide receivers are amazing, and it makes the stupid mistakes really look like coaching issues. Dooley has not recruited horribly, but we are still getting middle of the pack SEC recruiting classes, which will never cut it.

Sounds logical to me.:hi:
Sounds

That's exactly what Tony said yesterday.

I've been hanging out in the FF for three years. As it turns out, the best football talk happens in here.
By the way, I'm Lee. I was a graduate student at UT from 2003 to 2008. I now am a professor in Dayton OH, where I live with my wife and two-year-old boy. You guys are awesome.

What must be done inevitably, might as well be done.

I'm tired of this.

If you could 100% gurantee that we get the right guy, then yes. But who is that guy? You may be right. I don't think the program has gotten worse under Dooley. It's improved a little, just not at the rate we all had hoped.

If you had to list 3 coaches that would realistically take the job, that yo would want, who would they be?

The, if the right guy is hired thing, is my biggest issue. I just don't see anyone out there that we could legimitly hire. There are a lot of people whose names have been thrown out there but none of the names that have been thrown out are actual contenders or people that we would really want coaching here IMO. I know some on here think Gruden is the guy and some use him as a joke but I just don't think Gruden is intrested in coaching again right now. I think he enjoys getting to watch all these different games and commentating on them. I think Dooley could PROBABLY build a good program here if given the opportunity or time, but I don't think he is going to be given the time and he is not helping his case with the team's performance in these big games.

:hi: Welcome to the Topic. Enjoy the converstation here. Just about all of us that post in this thread on the regular are pretty sensable and you don't have to worry about being called names here either.

We are going hiking this weekend, probably in the smoky's, thinking about staying in gatlingburg or pigeon forge so we can go both Saturday and Sunday. Either area better for staying?

If you are wanting to stay in a cabin I would go with PF area. If you are just wanting to stay somewhere and wanting to walk most places you go then I would stay in Gatlinburg. Little word of advice I would check availiblty of rooms because with the UT Bama game this weekend and the leaves starting to change color they are getting into the busy time of year. May be hard to get a room. Not sure though.

Well ut fans aren't going, so I don't have to worry about them :) just kidding. I checked yesterday, plenty available in pf. We are going that way because of the leaves. Really we just want a place to rest and be able to catch the game.

My first call would be to Herm Edwards.
