Walter Cronkite & Chattanooga pollution. It's become local legend that a turning point for the city was when Walter Cronkite announced on the Evening News in 1969 that our city was the dirtiest in America. From that point on, the city cleaned up it's act.

No they didn't. Chattanooga cleaned up their act by ending its relationship with Alabama and starting one with Georgia. It was a good move.
