At first this made no sense, but now I get it with adding pauses/commas where they should go.

When we met I lived in Lexington, Kentucky and then a year later I got a job in Columbus, Ohio at Ohio State.

That is how the miles stuff worked out.

I would go see her once a month from Lexington and then I would go on my days off at OSU to see her every week.

It was a completely long and hard process but in the end it was more than worth it!
