I'm liking this McBride kid more and more.
Vols QB of the future.
Really. I've been suspecting that JG has that prima dona issue. QD may not be mobile but he put in the necessary patience and studied under Dobbs and is of good character. I just don't see any spirit coming from JG on the sideline. He knows cameras are on him and broadcasters are mentioning it. You all tell me how can your head be in the game when I feel you should be up front on the sideline and wanting to know the play being called and the reason why it was called,(def.alignment), and if QD audibles why.
I've been trying to follow the 2 QB's we have committed and although Martinez is higher rated, Penix ain't no slouch. Oklahoma and L.Riley will likely make a strong push for A.M. so we really should count our blessings if we land this prospect. We're solid with Cade Mayes and could land Corvin on OL and have good RB's. Yeah,I'm well aware of the coaching ignorance that exist. The cheapest way out since it's obvious CBJ is clueless as to how to call a game is hire someone who does know how to call a game. Has he even tried ? His stubborness,I'm afraid will run this program into the ground. I'm tired of seeing this offense. There's no innovation, no ingenuity, and defenses can read it too easy. Tyler, thunder Byrd has 3 touches so far and we're heading into 5th game. I've yet to see play-action of any type. The screen to JK worked twice before UF sniffed it out. It starts behind left tackle every time. I don't see anything that UT's offense does that opposing LB's can't key in on and shut it down.
There was a thread about J.Hurd on VN this past day or so and irregardless how you feel about him
you cannot continue to run plays or use players that the opponent knows what's coming. That's why offenses use play action, to make it appear as though we're going to do something. Thoroughly and totally lacking is what UT's offense is at the moment. CBJ throws execution into the mix to attempt to cleverly cover his own azz when anybody with a grain of football intelligence can easily identify the problem. There have been many posts in this forum identifying the very same things that I've just said. The worst....we can't even get up under center and take a snap. He doesn't practice it so he doesn't trust it.
The big tell is his promoting CLS to offensive coordinator. Does anyone in Vol Nation know why this occurred ? I don't know why DeBord left. I'd like to. CBJ thinks of himself as an offensive mind. If he were to bring in a
GOOD OC he'd be immediately upstaged. It's already occurring if you look at his conference record. Shoop is hanging on by a thread. UT's D looked like his his teams at Vandy, PSU against UMass but that's not saying too much. I'm simply attempting to find something positive to take out of these past two weeks. I, more than anything, wanted to be a typical fan this year and know our young men had some growing to do and expected some losses. I got suckered in by the O/W game and expected QD to be better but I did have my doubts about CLS and they have been confirmed.
The two positive things I've noticed is our S&C coach is producing positive results and our line coaches seem to be developing these guys well. Coach Thig attempted to illustrate how the LB's have to react on the BJ's Show on Sun. and for some reason it's not easy position to play. I didn't want to get into coach bashing but Lyle brings it on himself. It's that simple and I've been talking UT football for quite a few years and many acquaintices of mine do the same. We were divided 50/50 over CPF but this current offense demonstrates to us that it was the intelligence of J.Dobbs that got us several wins and made CBJ look better than he actually is. He's our "caretaker" remember that. Remember after Vandy game he intentionally avoided the press when a respectful
MAN would
OWN IT. At least that's one of his mottos he stood behind. What was his excuse for that. If L.Riley flips Martinez by UT's lack of offensive proficiency it will hurt this team big time in the long run.
