The Thread Where People Argue About Kneeling in the NFL (merged)

Are you saying that AV shouldn't be allowed to make a statement against something that offends him? You see, burning a flag is an act not a statement with words, so it's a slippery slope to say that the response can't also be an act. Arson meet battery.

No it's pretty clear that you can't assault people for any reason besides self defense. That was decided by our Supreme Court. To use a popular phrase in this thread: "if you don't like it you can GTFO."

Well, all these protests were attacked because they were unpatriotic. Then because it was offensive to those that served. Sitting was offensive. Kneeling was offensive. Staying in the lockerroom was offensive. Now standing for the national anthem, but taking a knee after it was over was offensive. Now, a bunch of people are pissed because there is any protest. My post was over the top and it was intentional, but we're running out of reasons to be pissed at these guys. Race seems to be as good a reason as any.

I don't get caught up in this debate much but we want them to shut up and just play football.... I want to follow sports writers and actually hear about the team I follow.... I don't give two sh&ts about their protest.

You realize David Duke was a Democrat that ran for president right?! Quit trying to pull a Hillary Clinton and label conservatives white supremacists and Nazi! If you and these protestors actually listened watched what happened and listened to what Trump said you would realize that the "counter protestors" brought weapons and got physical. We do not have to nor do we agree with white supremacists to know they have a right to peaceful march. You have a right to peacefully counter protest too. Just because he spoke truth does not make him a racist and shows your agenda imo.

Sen Robert Byrd, D-WV was a grand wizard in the klan and the leader of the Senate. George Wallace was a Democrat from AL who ran for president, he wanted to bring back segregation among other things. Dems just get a pass on these things.

Why? Cause he exercised his first amendment rights?

No, because he exercised little to no judgment. He should have taken a page from his veteran, All-Pro, Superbowl MVP, starting QB and realized that the National Anthem and displaying of the colors is a poor time to make a political statement.

Considering your post-trajectory, I wouldn't think you'd get that either.

If you don't like what you have seen so far, my guess it gets worse, so you better just turn off the TV and internet, if you can't take it.

This is why you don't bring your politics and religion to a party.

The problem with these guys is they really aren't protesting, they are grand standing.

Does anyone else see the irony in that there is a significant racial imbalance among the highly paid members of teams protesting racial inequality? Anybody heard "quota" being thrown around or anything else to address the imbalance?

I always thought Trump was a funny guy. The complete epitome of a snobby rich dude. Never thought he was presidential material. I agree that he was a better candidate than Hillary but the best presidential candidate overall may have been left in Trump's wake after the Republican primaries.

That's the problem; there wasn't a "best" presidential candidate. In fact, none of them were even in the acceptable category.

Where in the private sector do you hear quota? I don't. They aren't protesting for themselves. They are protesting for those they perceive are being mistreated. You can debate whether they are right or wrong on that. Outside of one player I know of they aren't saying "I am a victim."

While I don't disagree with assault as a crime, I don't think it's specifically addressed in the Constitution as is "free speech". Once the SC decided to make an action equivalent to "speech", how do you draw the boundaries? Sometimes it's better to leave things as they are than to get all activist about it because someday someone will challenge it from a different angle, and putting toothpaste back in the tube is a real problem.

Snow flake? I have seen far more Trump supporters act like snow flakes lately. And before you assume, I am not a Hilary man, and consider myself conservative

I am not sure you know what it means... its more like "you are not s special snowflake, there is nothing special about you".

People have the freedom to stand, kneel, ride a bike, wear ugly clothes, pick religions, curse, jump up and down, hoot and holler, and cry or applaud anything they want to. Just because I don't agree with some of those things or when they do it doesn't mean they don't have the right to do it. That's what makes America great. JMO

People with this attitude obviously have never served a day in the military. I don't care how you spin it, not showing respect to the symbol of what this country is and what so many have sacrificed... Disrespectful. And I agree, if they want to make change why aren't they starting a foundation AND putting up some of that big contract money they have... What do you think Pat Tillman would have to say about all of this?

I am well aware what it means. I have read all day about "how my ancestor blah blah blah and now I am pissed." They aren't trying or intending to disrespect the military. It's ass hurt itis. No different then the idiots at U of Missouri. Just a different faux cause. There is nothing special about all these people talking about their relatives service. We all have them.

This is like a freakin Jerry Springer show. Going nowhere. Two of these threads in the same week. What the hell kind of site is this turning into

I do have to wonder how a team member that didn't want to participate would be treated afterwards.

I think you are lacking context, those people at the school were basically promoting a racist mentality and basically getting to force to push it. Look I don't even think the anthem needs to be played but at the end of day....you remove the border, you remove the flag, you remove the anthem....do you even have a country?

This is pure grand standing.

The NFL could be entering their Kathy Griffin moment, if they don't wise up....they keep falling for the exact same trap. These players did exactly what there master Trump wanted they to do.

I'm liking this McBride kid more and more.

Vols QB of the future.

Really. I've been suspecting that JG has that prima dona issue. QD may not be mobile but he put in the necessary patience and studied under Dobbs and is of good character. I just don't see any spirit coming from JG on the sideline. He knows cameras are on him and broadcasters are mentioning it. You all tell me how can your head be in the game when I feel you should be up front on the sideline and wanting to know the play being called and the reason why it was called,(def.alignment), and if QD audibles why.

I've been trying to follow the 2 QB's we have committed and although Martinez is higher rated, Penix ain't no slouch. Oklahoma and L.Riley will likely make a strong push for A.M. so we really should count our blessings if we land this prospect. We're solid with Cade Mayes and could land Corvin on OL and have good RB's. Yeah,I'm well aware of the coaching ignorance that exist. The cheapest way out since it's obvious CBJ is clueless as to how to call a game is hire someone who does know how to call a game. Has he even tried ? His stubborness,I'm afraid will run this program into the ground. I'm tired of seeing this offense. There's no innovation, no ingenuity, and defenses can read it too easy. Tyler, thunder Byrd has 3 touches so far and we're heading into 5th game. I've yet to see play-action of any type. The screen to JK worked twice before UF sniffed it out. It starts behind left tackle every time. I don't see anything that UT's offense does that opposing LB's can't key in on and shut it down.

There was a thread about J.Hurd on VN this past day or so and irregardless how you feel about him you cannot continue to run plays or use players that the opponent knows what's coming. That's why offenses use play action, to make it appear as though we're going to do something. Thoroughly and totally lacking is what UT's offense is at the moment. CBJ throws execution into the mix to attempt to cleverly cover his own azz when anybody with a grain of football intelligence can easily identify the problem. There have been many posts in this forum identifying the very same things that I've just said. The worst....we can't even get up under center and take a snap. He doesn't practice it so he doesn't trust it.

The big tell is his promoting CLS to offensive coordinator. Does anyone in Vol Nation know why this occurred ? I don't know why DeBord left. I'd like to. CBJ thinks of himself as an offensive mind. If he were to bring in a GOOD OC he'd be immediately upstaged. It's already occurring if you look at his conference record. Shoop is hanging on by a thread. UT's D looked like his his teams at Vandy, PSU against UMass but that's not saying too much. I'm simply attempting to find something positive to take out of these past two weeks. I, more than anything, wanted to be a typical fan this year and know our young men had some growing to do and expected some losses. I got suckered in by the O/W game and expected QD to be better but I did have my doubts about CLS and they have been confirmed.

The two positive things I've noticed is our S&C coach is producing positive results and our line coaches seem to be developing these guys well. Coach Thig attempted to illustrate how the LB's have to react on the BJ's Show on Sun. and for some reason it's not easy position to play. I didn't want to get into coach bashing but Lyle brings it on himself. It's that simple and I've been talking UT football for quite a few years and many acquaintices of mine do the same. We were divided 50/50 over CPF but this current offense demonstrates to us that it was the intelligence of J.Dobbs that got us several wins and made CBJ look better than he actually is. He's our "caretaker" remember that. Remember after Vandy game he intentionally avoided the press when a respectful MAN would OWN IT. At least that's one of his mottos he stood behind. What was his excuse for that. If L.Riley flips Martinez by UT's lack of offensive proficiency it will hurt this team big time in the long run.

If you think our country is defined by anthems and flags then we will never agree.

We can agree on boarder

The flag and anthem are symbols for something that doesn't exist i.e. the United States, that's all. So, when people see that, they think you don't stand with us. There is some truth to that but it can also be taken too far as well.

At the end of the day, it looks like a bunch of grown men wearing tights acting like the have principles...but the truth is they are frauds. I mean, protesting from the toilet really doesn't do much does it? The should have brought the toilet paper out to throw at the crowd at least.
