THE Tailgating Source

What's the plan for the weekend? I say a Friday night at DTG&B or Preservation Pub gets things off to a good start.

I think I'm going to be in Knoxville for this one, although I'm not sure what time I'll roll in Friday night. I'll keep checking the thread for the plan, but I'd at least like to drop by sometime over the weekend and say hello.

How late do these things usually last on Fridays?
The one before the Cal game last year lasted well into the evening. Personally, I don't remember the last time I got home before 2 AM the night before a home game.

My flight doesn't land until 11:30 Fri. night. I hate to admit it, but I will be too wiped out to make it out after that.

Saturday morning, my buddy is planning a rather large tailgate in the lot behind Charlie Peppers. I'd like it if any Nationals happened by. Ask for Jason.

yeah, definitely won't make DTG&B. not because i don't want to, but because it's not worth trip back to West Knoxville on game weekend.

It looks like I might not get to Knoxville until game time, with a slight chance I might not make it at all due to a family crisis.

Has a plan been set yet?

I'll be up for the game, folks. Where's the party?

Unfortunately, due to some personal circumstances, I'm not going to make it to the Hill this weekend. I was looking forward not only to the game but also to meeting some of my fellow posters. Anyway, enjoy it without me, and hopefully I'll be in Knoxville for the Arkansas game, and we can meet up then.

Hi, I'm a first time poster. I'm an English guy living in NYC. Myself and 4 other NY based English guys are coming down to Tennessee for the Georgia game in October. We're flying to Nashville and then driving to Knoxville early Saturday AM. Whats the deal with tailgating? Is there a main spot where everyone goes? Anywhere that someone could recommend? We then plan on going out in Knoxville after the game..is there a main street where all the college bars are? sorry for being vague, but could anyone give me some info to make sure we have a good night? I've never been to a college football game, and I'm coming down for less than 48 hours so I want to make sure I make the best use of my time!

Pregame, you can either hit Cumberland Avenue for the bar-scene, or roam around campus. Make sure to make the Vol Walk (check UTSports.com for the time), I think it's about 2.5 hours before kickoff.

Afterwards, your best bet is downtown. There's a great pub in the Old City called Crown and Goose that you might enjoy (being English). You might also check metropulse.com for happenings.

Nice! Ok first question; Do you know the song Big City Life?

Cumberland Ave. is where a lot of people tailgate. Get there at least 4 hours before game time! If you stay at a hotel downtown or on campus (11th street and white?) then you will be very close. After the game, the Strip will be rockin' with Vol and Dawg fans. There are also some places to go downtown... about 1 mile from the Strip.

we booked too late so were staying about 5miles away from the stadium, but it'll be fine, we'll just get cabs to and from the hotel.

cool, so it seems that Cumberland is the place to be!

We're driving from Nashville in the morning so are aiming to get there for around 10am i think.

My vols shirt arrived yesterday, I'm all set!

Sneaky me discovered I am getting a smoker for christmas. Any tips, tricks and ideas from you guys? I have been talking about one all year it seems. Can't wait.

What to smoke? I'll hang up and listen...

Yes.

I have a friend with a Big Green Egg and he cooks almost everything on it...steaks, chops, roasts, turkey, beer-can chicken, tenderloins (beef or pork), turkey, ham...good stuff. He even has a heavy metal plate that you can set on top of the grate and cook a pizza.

Stop shaking the boxes underneath the tree! Not cool!

Green Eggs are awesome. I used to work in that industry (Hearth/BBQ/Patio) and at the trade shows we always enjoyed seeing the stuff they came out with. What was really great, was the private parties they would throw for customers at the micro-brews in Atlanta each year.

Great company, great product.

Got a 5 pound brisket in the smoker right now.

Put it on at 0900, will pull it at 1800 depending on the temp.

Marinated it overnight in a Guinness 250, worchestershire, garlic and onions. Sprayed it every hour with apple juice.

I found a butcher in WR that will cut however you want and is dirt cheap. The place is a hole in the wall but unbelievable cuts of meat.

I will post pics granting it is something to be proud of. This is my first brisket.

OK, wasnt bad. Not as tender as I wanted.

I did it on 225*. I don't get it, most sources say 225 is the max. I did mine for 9 hours at 225.

I sliced it as thin as I could, internal temp was 183 when I took it from the smoker.

Anyone have any experience with this stuff?
