The Spring Roster is Upon us

If this team goes 9-3 then Heupel will sweep every SEC and national COY award. It would take a minor miracle for that to happen.
we have more talent by a pretty big margin than 9 of the opponents on the schedule next year.

You’re just going by star rankings which cease to mean anything once the players actually have to produce. And many of those kids aren’t even on the team anymore.

This team is not “a pretty big margin” above teams like Ole Miss, Missouri, or Kentucky. We will very likely be underdogs against them.

His physical talent if developed could change the entire complexion of the D.
U told the whole truth right there. I think that kid is a stud, you could see flashes last year. He kinda jumps off the screen from time to time. He may benefit most from going to a 4 man front with his hand in the dirt.

I haven't heard Fields moved to corner?

Even so, not a lot of room for error when we play nickel, or God forbid Dime.....

I believe Slaughter and McDonald played some nickel a few times last year.
Came in as a corner. Never heard that he switched.

Fields hasn't played corner at all since he's been here, only safety.......Unless of course he's made the move since Heupel has been here. Two years ago, he made a few pretty nice plays in the spring game from Free and I thought we'd have saw more of him by now.

People just setting Heupel up for failure already. This team is razor thin at TE, CB, and LB. Add an entire new staff to the mix as well. I'll be extremely pleased with a competitive 7-5, some good recruiting, and a fun offense. Give the guy some time before thinking 9 wins is the expectation. Also most of the "talent" we have is unproven. We have very few SEC vets coming back.

We haven’t landed any corners in two classes. What CJP did to our secondary is on par with what Dooley did to our Oline
Dooley left an OL with 5 NFL caliber starters. Mostly due to the writing on the wall, he didn't sign any OL's one year so depth became a significant issue. But what Jones failed to do with that very talented OL is far worse than what Dooley left.

You may be right but I would love to see him play just a tad lighter at ILB. He has speed at 260. The only question is pass coverage ability. I like the notion of a guy that big playing behind a big DL and having a free run at RB's.

New defense emphasizes zone...he’ll develop much better.

I actually believe your right that it's possible he makes the switch to corner, especially this spring for lack of depth. If he does make the move, my hunch is that it will be temporary. I just didn't know if you'd heard anything definitive. I can't imagine how grueling it's going to be on those few CB's we have chasing all those verticals in practice.

It’s necessary he be in that group. Have to hope Christian Charles catches on like a prodigy.

had high expectations for Fields. the little time he has played, seemed to have great instincts. could not figure out why he was not splitting time at safety. hope he gets another look.
Tim Banks has mainly been on staffs that employ shorter cornerbacks effectively. Pruitt and Ansley emphasized around 6 foot height as his ideal.

I think he'll get a fair shot for playing time behind Flowers and McCollough and hopefully challenge both. Theo Jackson is the only other one with any considerable playing experience. I think he's known as a physical player and good tackler, just not a burner for a guy on the outside.

Lack of depth on defensive side of ball is biggest liability with CJHs offensive approach. Conditioning and bringing in transfers are only hope. Fear we may see a lot of leads disappear late in games. However, having a lead late in games would still be a big improvement over recent history and would be a sign of good things to come.

Bryson Eason looks to be taking a page out of another West Tenn Vol, Marlon Walls' book and making the 2 position hop from LB to DT.

Lack of a pass rusher and anything proven at LB is alarming. Depth at DB is scary thin, but ITaylor, George, Flowers, and Tank are SEC level starters.

Heupel will scheme to make the OL more than adequete. POTENTIAL at WR and POTENTIAL consistant QB play could make the offense exciting, but lack of proven playmakers makes me wary.

All in all, it is a more talented roster than our last three coaches inherited, but not by much. Hoping for an impact Grand Transfer or two, a solid season, and sanctions not to kill us on the 'crutin' trail.

Yea but i'd rather see him at 260 in a 7 or 9 technique with a free rush to the QB
