So my ankles are pretty sore even though I've taken more than a few days off...I know I'm supposed to rest, but I don't want to!
Guess I'll hit the pool today.
Alrighty folks, not new to VN but new to this thread.
I've been running for a little over a month now and made the stupidest decision on Monday that I could've made...I switched shoes. I've been running in some Vibram Five Fingers b/c a friend told me they completely helped his shin splints...and they did for me too. After the first week, only thing that hurt were my calf muscles.
Monday, I wore my Reebok Zigs...big mistake. Immediately began to hurt. I went back to my Vibrams y'day and barely lasted a mile...and the last .5 hurt like hell.
So...today, I have my shins wrapped, iced, and pumped 800mg of Ibuprofen.
Following the R.I.C.E. method: Rest Ice Compression Elevate
Lastly, ordered some Mizuno Wave Inspire 9's--I'm a big dude (6'2", 260--trying to get back down to 220) with a somewhat severe overpronation.
Back when I was running a lot (6-7 years ago) I had Brooks Beasts but they're ugly as sin and I can't wear a shoe I don't like...the Mizuno's are badass but they're also supposed to help overpronators.
Any advice from you pros out there would be appreciated. I've got to get my a** back in shape...
To start I am no pro myself, but I have been running for two years now.
I'm a 6'4" dude and around three bills. I run three to four times a week and I use a Nimbus. My feet don't hurt from my shoes and I recommend them to everyone who will listen. Gel-Nimbus 15
But if the Beasts are what are comfortable, wear them. Who cares what they look like if they keep you running that extra mile. Also, these are no uglier than most running shoes: Beast Running Shoes.
I don't like the Zig personally because of the fact the arch seems to go flat on me, but a lot of it will have to do with going from Five Fingers to those. You are switching from a shoe with no support and is like running barefoot to something with standard running shoe support.
I forget which Asics I run in, and they're in my truck so I'm not going to go look, but of all the shoes I tried at Fleet Feet, they felt the best. Big improvement over the Nikes I was running in previously.
I read a review for adidas' new Sprinblade shoes, and while they don't do what they advertise (shocker), the reviewer reported almost no leg fatigue or pain when running when them.
