The Runner's thread

Ran 3 tonight. Started off way too fast and my first mile was 7:43 and ended up averaging 8:24 pace so I really slowed down at end. I felt like I shot out of a cannon the first mile but need to pace mysel better

Little muggy here today, but also 60-ish and raining off and on after stretch of nice weather. I made it out for a couple miles between rainy spells, turned in a nice and leisurely 18 minutes, but I always manage to injure myself if I get back into it and try and start turning in more than a 7 minute pace in the first month or so.

I've got a few problems with that any how, chronic shin splints (I get them even just walking more than a mile), literally almost zero degrees curvature in the arches of my feet, pretty bad supination and regular inflammation with the iliotibial band and patellar tendon. These Nikes I just got have been spectacularly helpful with some of that, they are Lunareclpise+2's.

Still, just about every day from the last week, it's been up early, 20 minutes of stretching, some advil and getting to it. Starting to feel pretty damned good about it.

Now to go replace my iPod shuffle that got stolen last year, running can get borrrring.

I used to get shin splints pretty bad. I found that if I stretch and ice my shins for twenty mins before and twenty mins after it helped mine go away quicker. After doing that for about a month straight I haven't had any since. May be something to try. Hope this helps.

Yeah, the stretching does the trick some of the time, so I'm always careful to do plenty of that. But I will ice them for sure. Danke

just learned from the birthday thread that marathons were started on my birthday

490 BC – Battle of Marathon: The conventionally accepted date for the Battle of Marathon. The Athenians and their Plataean allies, defeat the first Persian invasion force of Greece.

There is some pretty cool facts in that thread.

come on down and run with me. It's 82 and 80% humidity at sunrise.

Yes sir, and it has taken a toll. My runs have been quite a bit shorter as of late - 6 miles is about the max with current heat/humidity, and that distance is once per week. Other days are 4-5.

3.2 last night. 7:09 average pace. Seem to be stuck around that time here lately. Going to have to go the track and do some sprint training if I want to improve.

I love being able to run different places. We went to Santa Rosa, FL last year for vacation and they had a bike/running trail that followed the beach and it was nice.

It's probably already been touched on in this thread, but any suggestions for running shoes for someone with high arches/underpronator? I'm thinking about some adidas supernovas but thought this would be a good place to check. Stress fractures are a b.

Go to a running store and get custom fitted. That what I did and it has helped tremendously

Going for a post dinner run tonight. Try to go beforehand but couldn't tonight. Hate running with a full belly

As the rest have said, go to the local running shop. They help tremendously when picking new shoes.

I cannot run on a full belly. I get about a half mile in and have to quit before I get sick. I have to wait at least 45 mins after I eat before I can go run if I want to make it through.
