The Runner's thread

just looked...last years winning time was 26:54

That is a 6:07 pace...I think if I train properly I have a legitimate shot at winning

I turn 30 on Sept.12 and the race is 4 days later. Putting me in a new age group. If running with that age group today (without training for a short distance race) I could win or come really close...getting pumped.

That is a sick pace!! I would be pumped to if I thought I had a shot at winning a race. I turned 30 this past Oct. and ran my first 5k race in Dec. and my first half marathon in Feb. on this year. I can't wait to do my next race.

6:07 is a great pace

I had an 8:44 pace for the last half marathon I did. I realize that taking 2 and a half minutes off your time is huge, but the difference will be distance and training.

I did 8:44 on 13.1 miles.

This race is 4.4. Just going to see what kind of a pace I can get.

Yeah 2 and half mins is a lot but if you train for it I am sure you can get it. Plus when race day comes you will be pumped up and ready to run.

Did a calculator to see what my projected time for a 4.4 mile run should be and I am expected to average 8:07 per mile. My goal will be 7:45

When are you going to start training for the run? You said it was in September right?

Correct...

I will keep my running schedule for now until July 1st. I plan on making a running schedule this weekend for me to start. Right now I do cross training Tuesday,Wednesday, and Thursday. I do hill training on Friday, and 13-17 miles on Sunday. Weights on Monday and Saturday

This schedule will HAVE to change

Let me know what your schedule is. I am intrested to know what you will change. Who knows, it may be something I need to use to improve my time.

8 mile run and i blew up after 4 miles. had to walk the last 3. don't think important taking in enough calories.

I am going to have to take out one or two cross training days.

Then put in some sprints and some hill training.

Took this week off to rest but it's been hard. Ready to get back to it next week.

Supposed to rain all day here so looks like I will be a little wet when I get done. Not really looking forward to that at all, but it's better than not running at all.

Little muggy here today, but also 60-ish and raining off and on after stretch of nice weather. I made it out for a couple miles between rainy spells, turned in a nice and leisurely 18 minutes, but I always manage to injure myself if I get back into it and try and start turning in more than a 7 minute pace in the first month or so.

I've got a few problems with that any how, chronic shin splints (I get them even just walking more than a mile), literally almost zero degrees curvature in the arches of my feet, pretty bad supination and regular inflammation with the iliotibial band and patellar tendon. These Nikes I just got have been spectacularly helpful with some of that, they are Lunareclpise+2's.

Still, just about every day from the last week, it's been up early, 20 minutes of stretching, some advil and getting to it. Starting to feel pretty damned good about it.

Now to go replace my iPod shuffle that got stolen last year, running can get borrrring.
