The Runner's thread

Mapmyrun is great. I gave in and bought a garmin forerunner so I don't use it anymore but it is a great tool.

Did 5 miles today for the first time ever. Felt awesome!! I really enjoy running better in the morning

i have a garmin forerunner 210 to log the heart rate and miles. The battery life is terrible. have to charge it every day after the run or its dead.

I bought the Nike+ GPS watch. Gives me distance, current pace, avg pace, time elapsed calories burned and probably more. Even reminds me to run when I haven't gone in a couple of days.

Nike+ watch is the s***. No need to monitor heart rate IMO

Depends on your health I'd think as to whether or not monitoring your heart is needed. Someone who doesn't run or get much exercise, heart monitoring is probably a good idea. But thanks to Ft Bragg I get to run plenty enough. Also a key to weight loss is maintaining a higher heart rate (just not too high obviously). That said, I don't feel the need for it. I love the current pace feature the best, but this thing is awesome all around.

Just read an article in Runners World suggesting not using a watch or listening to music and pay attention to what your body is telling you

I say that's hogwash. My body tells me it wants to quit after the first tenth of a mile.

I ran 4 on the treadmill before getting out and about today. We went to the Cliff Walk, which is a 3.5 mile (one-way) hike along the coastal cliffs in Newport. Was a really awesome hike. So I got a total of 11 miles in today, although not all of them running...

I liked this sign at the beginning. Something about the guy falling off just cracked me up.

Took a week off after the back troubles in last weekends Half Marathon. Got out and ran 4 this morning with 7:52 pace. No back spasms yet! Keeping the fingers crossed :)

I just use the watch to measure distance and keep track of how much I run. I rarely look to check my pace or anything like that. I run based in how I feel
