The Runner's thread

Cant believe I haven't found this thread before now!! I'm training for the Berry half marathon next month. I'm bog slow (9:15/mile) but I'm trying to step it up and break 2 hours this time. I've come close a few times but at 45 years old I ain't gettin' any faster!!! I'm getting in 6 milers 3x a week and mixing in shorter runs (around 5k distance) for two other days...

Ran four miles saturday morning at 29 mins and 5 sec. I felt great afterwards. I love that feeling after you finish a run. The sense of accomplishment that you get. The "runner's high"

Any particular stretches y'all do after running? I'm still really new to it.

First thing I do when I get off the treadmill is calf stretches (had shin pain last time I tried running) and ankle rolls. Then quad and hamstring, then hip flexors. Then upper body stuff. Am I missing anything?

I had shin splints whenever i first started back running again. They can really hurt and hinder your run. I started icing down my shins for twenty mins before my run and twenty mins after my run. That really helped mine go away quicker.

first of welcome to a new lifestyle.

id reccommend time willing to walk five minutes to warm up, then do those stretches. stretching afterward is good but imo not as beneficial. good luck hope that helps.

watch, ill get hurt doing this today :)

Well I hope not. LOL Thanks for the info!

Anybody use the app runkeeper on their phone to track their runs?? If so have you had any problems out of the GPS signal picking up? I ask because I have been using this app since november to log my runs and here recently I have had a hard time getting the app to get a good GPS signal and then it doesn't keep an acurate account of my run. Just wondering if any of you using any different app or have had this problem. Thanks in advance

= an amazing run.

First time I've tried those two together. Perfect comfort.

It's just really hard for me to like those. lol

Week 4 Day 2 of C25K this morning. HR has been higher than last week. Monday it was 155bpm avg and 190bpm max. Last Monday it was 138 avg and 180 max. Reckon I should've repeated week 3, or is it okay to go ahead?

Do you play one on the internet? Or did you sleep at a Holiday Inn Express last night? Either of those makes you expert enough for me. :)
