The Runner's thread

Starting back soon. Looking forward to it. Planning on running the Knoxville Half-Marathon again in April this year. Really enjoyed it last year.

Serious. First 3-4 weeks my calves hated me. I was heel striker and five fingers helped me convert to mid foot strike, shorten my stride keeping my stride under my hips. Think those changes helped eliminate the issues. I weigh 185 lbs.
But I've done that without the five finger shoes and generally got the same result, but weigh 225.

I worked for a year changing my stride before I got my five fingers. Eliminated a lot of issues but not all. Going with the five fingers was what I needed to finish the job. When you get tired you can lose form and heel strike in shoes, that is almost impossible with five fingers. You are forced to slow down and keep your form. About 60-70% of my training is now done with the five fingers.

Can someone recommend two or three really good running shoes for someone that is getting back into running? I don't necessarily need space age shoes or the top of the line, but something that will make a noticeable difference.

I think stability is pretty important. My guess is that I have a slight supation (outside roll) but it is nothing major. I also have slight knee pain related to years of sports, so a good shoe to address that issue as well.

Thanks.

DN, go to a specialty running store like Fleet Feet. They should be able to put you in a good pair of shoes for $100-120. It will be worth the money.

Run, hike, rock scramble got me here. 8 miles.

55.5 total. My total sucks. Gotta step it up.

Great post

They will check and see what kid of runner you are and find the appropriate shoe. Great stuff

Week 2 Day 1 finished. Lots of stretching after. No knee issue at ALL this time! Still no shin pain. And just felt the slightest twinge in my right foot.

Hope y'all don't mind me using this thread.

Something I recently started. Have all these great pics in my head from past runs. Decided I want to be able to share.

this is one of the problems associated with being a photographer...I rarely take pics when i'm not working. Unless it's an iphone pic.
