The Runner's thread

I hesitate to even ask.....but here goes...

Do you switch hands? I think it would throw me off to have it on one side the whole time....I hate to even carry a tshirt.

Occasionally but most of the time I don't even notice it. My 20 oz is a Nathan system. The way it's designed, the strap loops around you thumb and palm. You don't have to exert any force to hold the bottle. you can hold your hand open and it won't fall.

cool, I have the nathan belt now....it was ok. With both bottles full it bounced up and down and seemed to retard the rebound in my stride if that makes sense. I'm going to try it again later this week on another 10 miler.

Thoughts on GU guys? I had it for the first time this week before my run...haven't had any during yet.

vanilla bean is a staple for me. I like the consistency better than Cliff Shots. I don't use them before a run unless I've missed lunch or really hungry. Will use one every 45-60 minutes if running longer than an hour. Makes a big difference for me.

Don't think Ive ever tried the "plain". My only complaint with GU is the price. Usually I can catch them on sale but $30+ for a box too much. Bought a box of Cliff Shots last time cause they were half the price of GU.

Anyone else on here run in the Knoxville area? If so, I'm trying to find some of the better greenways to use. Preferably in West Knoxville. I know the greenways that are around the tyson/bearden area and of course the cherokee greenway. Just wondering if there were any more.

i'm going to have to try the vanilla bean and regular. Eating it before hand was a bad idea. I think it sucked up any water in my system.

I ran through some feeder bands last night. Huge winds around miles 5 and 6. It was pretty cool.

I think you are supposed to eat it 45 min after you start running

so you ran in the evening?

I suggest a protein bar about 15 min before you run. (that is what I do) but this also isn't for everyone. You have to find what works for you.

I usually run at night, but i'm slowly moving to mornings. If i run at night I see my kids before and after work, and then go run after they go to bed. I'm still trying to get rid of about 10lbs so i'm avoiding protein bars before running....but once I get over 15 miles i'm probably going to have to.

one thing that will help you lose weight is drink a ton of water, and only water.

When I say a ton of water try drinking 3/4 of a gallon a day if possible.

If you do this with running you will shed weight. The worst thing about running 1/3 of the weight you lose is muscle mass. I love running but you have to work out to maintain

water and coffee is all i drink. I'm not super heavy or anything...I'm 175 right now, but I think at 165 i'd get rid of the last little bit of belly fat. So, i'm holding out on the protein bars for a few more weeks. Also, i'd prefer to not carry around the extra 10 lbs.

Could be you were dehydrated from the day. GU might not agree with you. Everyone is different. You could try Cliff Shots, Hammer Gel or Stinger Gel. Cliff Bloks is another option. They are like gummy bears.

I also mix Cytomax with my water. Its a better version of Gatorade and keeps me fueled.

honestly, I lift more than I run. I run to keep my heart in good shape but I don't want to lose the muscle mass. I eat a sh!t ton of protein.

You have to if you do any long distance runs.

Though it is my understanding if you are wanting to shed fat and build muscle 3 miles at a 30 min pace is ideal.
