6 beautiful miles yesterday -- 5.3 with my son riding his bike and my dog in her new Gentle Leader collar. We all three did great!

I'd love to take my dog, but I've never run her and would be afraid shed get too tired

@Volly: 7 years old. Loves his bike and only needs a push on the steepest hills.

@SD: start slow and short distances. What breed? Mazzy is a Boxer/pit?/lab? mix, about 8 months old. I carry a water bottle for her too and she tells me when she needs it.

@Scotty: I love my Asics. Flat feet, so I wear the Kayanos. $$$ but well worth it.

She is a 5 1/2 year old yellow lab

Looks like the guys here at work are going to chicken out on me on this running group thing on Wednesdays. Everyone is coming up with excuses. We will see what happens tomorrow.

Anyone have any opinions of some the best running shoes out there? I need to buy a new pair soon..

I rotate through 3 or 4 pair, but I run in Asics kayano 18, Mizuno Wave Prophecy and Mizuno Wave Nirvana 8. Nirvana 8 is probably the best of the group for me. Tried the Wave Creation 13, but not enough stability help and I only need minimal.

Asics newest member to the 33 line will be my next runner. I don't recall the name on it, but it's apparently their most cushioned shoe ever and is supposed to support a reasonably broad range of runner types.

If you want some great shoes at great prices, find what you want and then buy last years model from Holabird Sports online. Best pricing and exceptional service.

I still love the Asics GT series. I had like 12 pairs in a row of them before I decided to try the new Under Armour running shoe (the MicroG), which I also like.

I'm late joining in on this thread, but I wanted to jump in since I'm ramping up to tackle a long time goal. I have to take a fit-test for my agency, and part of it is the mile and a half run. My best time is 9:08, but that was almost 9 years ago. My time last year was 9:34. My goal is to get under 9:00.

I was planning on integrating some sprint training into my routine, but wanted to hear some suggestions on how to approach this. The rest of my fit-test incorporates push-ups, sit-ups, and flexibility, so I have to maintain those as well. I currently do a hybrid workout of P90X, P90X2, and Insanity:Asylum along with at least 2 days of running a week. I'm training a total of 6 days a week right now.

TIA

Good luck. I just started running 6 weeks ago after just having done 3 rounds of P90X in a row. After 6 weeks I am running at a little less than 8.5 min miles and I have never been a runner before. You should do fine and be able to reach your goal

Take a look at P90X2 if you haven't already. It's different, but good. Very balance based, which has helped my running immensely.

I might order it in June. I heard its not as good as the original though?

I am training for a half marathon in June so 4 days of running and 2 days of P90x right now.

It has its pros and cons. It's just different, that's all. After doing the workouts a couple times and getting familiar with them, I found them very challenging.

My legs were feeling a little sore after I did some intervals on Saturday. I took yesterday off and ran today instead. Got 2.75 in today.

Well I was correct... everyone that was supposed to run on Wednesday from work bailed. Everyone had some kind of excuse. I went ahead and ran a 5k. Now they are all talking about runnning today after work. We will see what happens

I wasn't feeling up for running at all today. I was tired, and my left hamstring was pretty sore. I sucked it up though. Chugged some water about an hour before, along with a banana, and took a couple ibuprofen for my leg. I got out and got 3.1 easy. That was the best run I've had since I started, I'm really glad I got out.
