Crowbar has some of the smoothest and heavy riffs.

G**amn I love this

Paradise Lost was one of those bands that I listened to growing up. I used to jam out to them on my way to Norris Lake to party back in my high school days..

Draconian Times is one of my all time favorite albums.

I almost got into a fight with the singer of Crowbar once when I was in high school. They were playing a gig in Knoxville and couldn't get the soundboard to work. They took like 2 hours to get it fixed and the club audience was getting really annoyed. So the members were walking in the club and some guy right behind me yells at them, "just shut the $**£ up and play!" And the singer was right in front of me and turned around and though I said it and was tempted to swing on me until I told him it was the guy behind me that said it, and he moved on to that guy and got in his face and the guy immediately backtracked and started apologizing.

Long story short: Crowbar is an angry band.

I saw At The Gates live last night. Something I've been wanting for 20+ years. Awesome show. Now I gotta see Carcass, Amorphis, Gojira, and MAYBE In Flames.

I wonder if In Flames is going to be around much longer. The drummer announced he's leaving the band at the end of their tour so he can be home with his family, and Bjorn and Peter own a restaurant now. It wouldn't surprise me if they take an indefinite hiatus.

It is long overdue in my opinion. Once Jesper left the real gnarly guitar riff creator was done.

His guitar work on Subterranean through Clayman was awesome.

My Jester Race album is autographed by the band and I still have the t-shirt..man its old!

In Flames - Ever Dying. This song drove me to focus on guitar..before it was Van Halen and Satriani.

In Flames - Episode 666

I think if In Flames stuck to their 90's formula they would have created a ton of awesome albums but probably not achieved the commercial success that they did. With that said they did have some decent "post being good" songs in my opinion:
Touch Of Red

But as time went on the production seemed to get worse which was a shame..the albums pre 2002 sounded way better.

It's funny that you mention In Flames driving you to focus on guitar. I was in the same boat. I was a huge Van Halen and Satch fan, and obviously a huge fan of the big 4 thrash bands, but In Flames is the group that really lit a fire under me. When I heard The Jester Race album, that completely changed my approach to guitar. Subterranean and Jester Race are perfect albums. Stand Ablaze is one song I can never tire of.

I started off learning classical guitar. Then I heard Ever Dying and Opeth's first album and was like, "time to learn metal". I had Van Halen and some Satriani down. Then it became In Flames, At The Gates, dark Tranquillity. Opeth, etc. At one point in time I knew how to play every song from At The Gates - Slaughter Of The Soul, In Flames - Subterranean, Dark Tranquillity - The Gallery.

I love that song. To be honest..I wish the whole song was like the first 1:30 minutes..the part at 1:14 was awesome I thought..a good departure from their previous works. Reminds me of Hypocrisy : Abducted..Slippin Away in regards to a song that was totally different in style from not only the band but the genre.

My friends and I used to listen to various metal albums but Slippin Away was a song we put on when out at Norris Lake and hitting the bong. The rest of the album obviously was a little bit too much for stoner kids at the time..
