LOL, this guy tries to pump himself up by saying how he's played on some soundtracks and published music, so that makes him an expert, but the guitarist of one of the most famous and bestselling metal bands of all time obviously isn't any good.
Don't waste your time arguing with this window licker.
Why you got to **** on a Rock/Metal thread Daddy-O? You should start a Jazz/Coffee thread to get all snarky in.
I actually love rock and metal, which is what got me into guitar in the first place. I used to be a huge Hammett fan when I was 15. Then I started studying music. It's like going from Dr. Seuss to Shakespeare. And if you were actually being objectionable, you'd notice I've actually posted rock and metal videos unlike the other 2 knuckle draggers, so I've actually contributed to this thread.
Again, you are ignoring the other side of it because you choose too. I wasn't the one that started the personal attacks on other posters and said that Kirk's solo in Dispossable Heroes was actually a good one. But you keep on pretending I'm the bad guy because I'm a competent musician and that somehow discredits me instead of the other way around. I'm done with this nonsense and you drama queens. But you don't need to throw out that a guitarist sucks at solos and then call people names that like his stuff. Saying that you aren't a fan should cover it, Daddy-O. I think that most Jazz sucks... but that's because of the way that it sounds to me and not because of music theory snobbery. I like blues... but not because it's highly technical. I like it because it has feeling and soul and sounds good. I like David Gilmour for the same reasons... and he's very efficient with his choice of notes and he has amazing tone. So if you think Kirk sucks, fine... that's your opinion. But to say that he does suck and others that say he doesn't are FOS because you've studied jazz is just wrong. Music doesn't suck to those that like their preference of an infinite number of arranged notes and tones. And Dr Seuss was a far better children's writer than William S. ever was.
Playing devils advocate..just because you are in a best selling group doesnt make you a talented musician. My experience has been that pop music is often simple and enjoyed by the simple masses.
As a guitarist myself for over 25 years I think Kirk is pretty good. He is better than me. But what irks me is when people say guys like Tom Morello is good...dudes not good at all.
The worst musically skilled popular band that I have ever heard was Green Day. When you play guitar you literally can learn less than 5 power chords and know every Green Day song ever written. I've seen newbies fresh out of Mel Bay books string a few bar chords together when practicing and its a Green Day song.

I was in UT's Jazz Program, not jazz band, moron. It's one of the hardest music programs to get into in the country and was ranked in the to 5 music programs in the US when I attended. The director of the program was a guy named Jerry Coker, who is a world famous musician and also happened to perform with Frank Sinatra. I'm also a published musician and have performed music for movie soundtracks, so you are probably way, way below my talent level. So, you might want to just to stop posting about how great of a guitarist you think Kirk is so you don't keep showing just how little you know or understand.
Omnium Gatherum is amazing. I think they get ignored because they came out after the whole Gothenburg scene exploded and seemed like a rip off of In Flames at first. Great band though.
Abbath's new stuff is decent. I thought that "I" album he did a few years back was him at his best.
And every time I see Varg, I think it's Varg Vikerenes and get confused as to what he's doing, and then I realize it isn't him.
