The "Rick Barnes Owns College Station" Postgame Report

This team will probably set the season record for blocked shots and I enjoyed watching Williams and Alexander protect the rim tonight.

Lamonte Turner made some great passes and was an ice man at the free throw stripe.

UT showed they can win when Hubbs has an off night.

Solid win in a tough place to get a win.

I know Hubbs had an off game with only 6 points and 3 rbs but even in a game like that he just handles himself so differently from last year. I thought he was assertive, for the most part, and did not "disappear". He just simply didn't make some of the shots he normally does. Also, he doesn't fear bringing the ball up the floor against pressure. His previous 3 years he would have picked the ball up and panicked until someone came and got it from him.

The good news is that we won despite Hubbs not having a great game. That should build confidence as a team.

That's two games in a row where he didn't have a great game and got the W. His game at ETSU wasn't spectacular. As the previous guy said, his attitude on the court is completely different this year. As long as that doesn't change, this team will be fine.

Bear in mind too... Did all of this without Fulkerson. We haven't been completely healthy since the first game of the season. When we have everyone were a dangerous and a good solid team. This injury to Fulk however has helped Alexander grow though, and this will only help for our future.

Best thing about this win is that it happened even with SD praying to the Bball gods that it wouldn't.

Excellent defensive performance! If we can continue to keep up the confidence level then we will be much better that 13th in SEC.

Last night's performance would translate into 3rd-5th place in the SEC I feel. If Hubbs and Bone can improve on their performance then top 4 in conference is not out of reason.

We actually were missing Parker in Game 1 against UTC as well

The bad:

Gave up half of a 20 point lead diwn the stretch.

Parker and Bone only had one assist each.

Shooting.

Fouling.

Upsets a SEC team on the road and the team and coaches earn a post pointing out the few bad plays rather than recognizing how well the team played. This team has 7 freshmen including one redshirting . I think ir was a very good demenstration of great coaching and very good play by the youngest team in the SEC, if not the Nation.

13th youngest in the nation. It was said a million times during the game.

These guys may make me a BB fan. They are so fun to watch. I like the ball movement. I like the way so many of them can shoot and play defense. You never seem to know which one is going to emerge as the man on any given night. The bench play has to be a worry for opponents.

Realistically I know it was just one game in a long season, but I can't help but enjoy watching them play. I don't know if it's Barnes or his assistants that have molded these guys into a formidable team, but the fact is that they are playing well together and have had some heavyweight opponents that they have performed well against even in their losses.

Maybe you basketball Vols who have supported them through the lean times are responsible. Hey, I take my hat off to you. I'm pleasantly surprised at this team.:hi:

With how they're playing now, I hope that loss isn't the one that bites them in the end. I'm not holding my breath for an NCAA appearance, but if they somehow make a run, that one could hurt.

I've thought about that a few times actually, as nice as winning as UNC or one of those in Maui would've been, holding serve at home and beating UTC would've been better resume wise. With that said, we need UTC to be as good as possible, makes that L look much better.

Very true. But they are currently 1-3 against teams with an RPI better than 100, with only 1 left (ETSU), according to RPI forecast. One slip up really screws us over.

Correction: 2 left, both ETSU.

Per rpiforecast UTC can lose 4 games and still have a RPI better than 100, actually 5, but for wiggle room we'll say 4. I don't see much chance of that happening so...the way the RPI formula works their biggest impact to us is their overall record and not necessarily just beating top 100 teams. For example a 29-2 team with 0 top 200 wins would be a bigger impact on our SOS (key component of RPI), than us playing say Oregon who may have a great RPI but goes 22-8. SOS is simply calculated by opponents W/L record, it doesn't take into account their SOS, so at this point we just need our opponents to keep winning...doesn't really matter who they beat, just win.

#8 I though Bone showed some of good moves last night - it's just that his body is not responding 100% yet. His shot stroke is a little short, and his legs a little slow. If not for the latter, he breaks the trap and beats the buzzer to end the half. Look for much improvement later in the season if he stays healthy. JMO.

This. There was one move, I think in the second half where he was on the wing, crossed over and shot a floater that was just short, in a couple of games that shot will fall.

It's a post game thread. I didn't realize that it's restricted to sunshine pumping only. I'm fully aware of the roster and there's nobody on this board that's been more supportive of Barnes and this team than me. Take your misguided attempt at dictating the commentary somewhere else.

We've got a basketball coach. Very fun to watch, not drama, they just play their butt off. Probably won't see it in the win/loss column this year, but just give him a couple of years and we will have a solid basketball team!

I think they're going to finish a lot better than many(myself included) predicted before the season. I thought 13 to 15 wins before the season. Now, I think 16 to 18 wins is a realistic outcome.
