The reason we land all of these players that noone would figure we would...

He's a very good recruiter on a staff that has recruited well for 15 years.

Fulmer's in-home visit with Dwight Jones was today. If we land him, then I'll shut up with this whole thing.

Trooper gets recruits in the door at times, Fulmer seals the deal.

Creer's comments are more direct because TT was his main recruiter. TT is also credited for Donald, Berry, Rolando, and McKenzie.

Trooper is credited with landing Gerald Williams, Darnius Moore, Rolando Melancon, Nevin McKenzie, Lennon Creer, and Eric Berry.

Your point is appreciated. Trooper Taylor is a great recruiter. Nobody on here is questioning that. But, I think you are blowing it out of proportion. The rest of the staff, especially Fulmer, are great recruiters as well. They have been doing it long before Trooper arrived. Every single recruit that has signed with us has talked with Fulmer during the recruiting process. I promise you that. Fulmer has a hand in every recruit we sign. He does as much to show that "family atmosphere" as any assistant coach.

Agree. Point is these kids get recruited by a coach on the staff but during the whole process talk with CPF, other coaches, other football players and a large variety of folks from the school. There has to be an overall good feeling and atomsphere about the school which is a team effort.

Thank you for posting this, as I was about to.

TT may have worked on 20% of our recruits, but CPF works on 100%. Trooper is a perfect fit for an already tremendous recruiting staff. CPF has been hailed as one of the best recruiters for close to 15 years.

Yes, especially Considering the instate talent, Fulmer has done a tremendous job for the past 15 years.

Yes, especially Considering the instate talent, Fulmer has done a tremendous job for the past 15 years.

Tony Barnhardt had a piece in the AJC recently ranking the SEC coaching jobs in order of their desirability to a top candidate, and that's the only thing that kept UT from the top slot (behind Florida, and maybe Georgia) -- the UT head coach has to be a "tireless" recruiter, in Barhardt's words, as opposed to a place like Georgia or Florida where the coach can bring in top-tier talent without having to log a bunch of frequent-flier miles.

However the rest of Fulmer's career plays out, there's no doubt that his successor will also need to be a great recruiter for us to be competitive. Whatever his shortcomings as a coach, there's no doubt that he's been spectacularly good at going around the country and convincing seventeen-year-olds to come spend their college years in East Tennessee.

yeah, i kind of agree with what has already been said. CPF, despite what you may think about him from a x's and o's standpoint has proven once again that his biggest asset is recruiting. he's done a great job this year. maybe one of the best he's ever done imo.

as for troop, i think after you read a lot of the comments regarding him, there's no doubt he can develop and maintain relationships, much like CPF. and it seems to be a direct correlation to how CPF has always treated recruting. you see the same comments about Troop that you do about CPF....family atmosphere, dont' think of him as a coach, more like a friend, or a brother in Troop's case or a father figure in CPF's case.

i think it is also a good sign that CPF has his coaches' recruiting philosophy mirror his own. and it's paying off. and it doesn't hurt that you have a guy in Trooop that is not an older guy, has strong ties in TX and is young enough to bette relate to these kids.

the combo of the two is probably a hard combo to turn down.

kudos to CPF and the ENTIRE staff for this class.:salute:

recruiter On Tenn.'s staff doesn't know what they are talking about. Phil closes the deal just like he always has; no one does it better.

Without a doubt its Trooper Taylor; plain and simple.

Without a doubt, that's not the reason. Trooper may have gotten good recruits, prospects may mention their likening for him, but in no way is he the reason why we land all these players. It's more of the Family atmosphere that the coaches are so radiant of, if anything. Still gotta love Troop!

you can't give credit to just one of our coaches for recruiting, its a joint effort on most prospects
