The QB Debate - Charlotte edition (merged)

In the last 15 years, he might have an edge over Worley. But to be fair, I really can’t tell how good or bad he is. Our team is just so awful I don’t even think it matters.
Every other qb except Dormady last year had better oline and rb play along with mostly better coaching. He is still putting up top numbers for a UT qb.

I don't post much, but I am going to give me opinion on the QB situation.

JG is an average QB at best. He has real issues with pre-snap reads, locking in on receivers, bad pocket awareness, and is not a threat to run. He should have never been labeled a dual threat QB. Maybe we wouldn't criticize him as much if he wasn't labeled that way.

When you put an average QB behind a horrible offensive line, you get what we have seen all season. Yes, he had a career game against AU. However, you can't expect to complete 50/50 balls like he did in that game consistently. Yes, occasionally he makes fantastic throws. Unfortunately, he makes far more bad throws than good.

So why does he start? IMO KC would have to be miles ahead of JG to start. If CJP had picked KC to start, in all likelihood JG would have left or would leave. That would leave the team with McBride(who doesn't need to see the field and will likely transfer), and a true freshman as the backup QB's. With this offensive line, CJP probably didn't think he could take that chance.

If believe they are trying to give JG every opportunity to learn and progress in the heat of battle in the hopes that it will make him a better player this year and next. If he doesn't improve the rest of the season, I have a hard time believing he ever will. Don't be surprised to see a Freshman start next year.

So in your opinion Jalen Hurts was the greatest college qb ever and Tua should have stayed on the bench? He was 27-2.

I guess you would take Hurts over Peyton Manning. His record as a starter is way better. I guess you would take Leinart over Peyton too. He did win NC and make a few more BCS appearances.
I just asked his win lost record. No need to skirt the question. Can you not tell me? You seem to know all his stats. Answer the question.

JG doesn't have good field vision and seems to have mind made up with passes................

However, he has a good understanding of the stadium lighting system and design of the upper decks.
That's funny as heck. He should after all the times looking up from his backside.

I am calling John Lennon's son Sean and his mom, Yoko Ono, to be in the stands next game. Instead of the wave, we are going to try to get the fans to hold hands, sway from side to side in unison, and sing: "All we are say.....ing is give Chryst a chance"...…………."all we are say....ing is give Chryst a chance". Then, if JG is taking too bad a beating, we will all light hand candles and do a silent protest demanding human rights and to stop the genocide of one QB by our OLine.

JG is getting killed on half of his throws, most of the time he doesn’t have the extra second to find the TE in the middle of the field. He had decent protection against Auburn and you saw the results

You mean like this throw that caused Callaway to slowdown and get a little push off to go up for the underthrown 50/50 ball?

Of this one where Chandler got a bit of separation, and still had to turn around and backpedal anyway to make the catch?

How about a second 50/50 ball to Callaway where he had to get a little push and backpedal to make the catch again? Seeing the pattern here?

The receivers didn't come down with the ball because these were particularly good passes, it's because they had good matchups against the secondary, and made good plays on the ball the underthrown balls. JGs best game was totally dependent on his receivers making plays on his throws, and not the other way around. He had one throw that game where he hit a receiver in stride, and in general he is incapable of "throwing a receiver open".

Taking sacks and surviving doesn't make you a good QB, and even as bad as the oline is, JG has issues calling out protection, and even when he does have protection, he's still prone to hold the ball, be indecisive and take a sack.

I agree, he is very limited with the supporting cast he has. The Auburn game speaks volumes on what he can do. I'm not sure that I agree on opening up the passing game being a disaster. That's exactly what Helton did for that game.

It really doesn't tell the performance for a starting qb. Its a team stat.

If you think it is an individual stat then Hurts is better than Peyton. I don't think so.

He beat Aub a top 25 team.

How many of those completions are thrown laterally instead of downfield and then stuffed for little gain or negative yardage?
Not as many as some have tried to make it after the SC game. If so he wouldn't be top 8 all time UT and top 4 SEC this season in ypa.

In 7 games Justin Worley had 62.3% passing accuracy on 252 attempts, and had -105 rushing yards because his oline protection was as even worse than this year, averaging 3 sacks per game to 2.0 this year, and he even managed 12 TDs in 7 games.

Should he be considered a great QB in the annals of UT history?

Watched Alabama last night. Was amazed how fast Tua would get the ball to the receivers. One, two, boom. If we struggle with blocking why can't we do the same thing?

You defend his record saying that's a "team " stat, then turn around and say "he" beat auburn? Without his team, he doesn't have that lone conference win under his belt. The guy has a good arm, but he definitely needs work on his decision making process. How many sack/fumbles does he have? I'd say the most of any qb, but you don't mention that stat. Don't get me wrong, I'm pulling for him, but he's had one great game against a decent team. That's a factual stat as well. If he's as great as some of you claim, why the need for 15 threads a week defending him? Wouldn't his work speak for itself? I get our team is bad, but they all have work to do, including him. All that matters to fans is wins, not how many ypa he has, that's also a fact.

So the HC and OC told him not to do any reads of defenses, adjust the line and throw downfield less?

College qbs don't make reads at the line and make adjustments. Going downfield is PLAYCALLING.

He has also went down the field plenty. 4th in ypa in the SEC. Top 8 career at UT.

He was 2nd most of the year. When he was going deep yall complained he held to while he was looking for the open man.

Now the coaches adjusted to a shorter, quicker passing game to protect the line and the get ball out quick now yall complain the passes are short.

Either the qb holds the ball and goes deep or gets it off fast and goes short. Can't have it both ways.

We have. We aren't getting the rac and downfield blocking.
