That. Not sure what CJP can do until he gets his own guys..you know the drill.
I hate to suprise you but these players are his guys. They have been his guys in spring ball. In summer camp and now for the last five games of the season. Please stop with this sickening excuse.

He’s got a NC championship ring the same as Pruitt, as an asst
Auburn went from 3-9 with zero sec wins in 2012 to a 2012 to sec champs and losing the bcs championship game by 3 points. Care to elaborate anymore on the similairities of Pruitt and Malzahn?

That hopefully for UT that Pruitt can be so lucky to make it to the natty?

Lol @ people thinking UT will not only get a lead in an SEC game, but they will do so away from home. In what world are some fans living in where UT has shown even glimpses of being able to play competent football?

The Alabama bandwagon is calling your name. You’d feel right at home with all their redneck fans who have little to no football knowledge.

Their defense. This year and for the past few years their defense has been sneaky good. It doesn't get talked about because Gus is an offensive head coach.

Gus's and Auburn's problem for many years has just been inconsistency. Great seasons followed up by underachieving or flat out terrible ones. I can't put my finger on precisely why, but Gus needs an elite (not just really good, but elite) scrambling QB in order to get what is possible out of his team. It's funny that the great/good QBs he's had have all been transfers too (Cam, Marshall, Stidham). Not sure if that is a coincidence or not.

He can have great players around his QB and a great defense, but if the QB himself is not great he gets nowhere near the most out of his guys. You contrast this with teams like Alabama, Ohio St, or Clemson - they can still be a great team without spectacular QB play.

Yep, agree they have a good to great defense.

AU has talent to compete, but don't think they're coached that well. That's why they lose or play down to many opponents each year. UW on the other hand is a very well coached team....I think it turns out to be a bad loss for the Huskies going into the CFP selection....if all things are equal w/ other top teams.

AU does manage to win games each year that make them out to be more than they probably are.....ball just seems to bounce their way more than not. However, outside the first year, credit to Cam more than anyone....and plain dumb luck in the UGA and UA games, Gus' record is meh....and fire worthy to most on here if he was our coach.

Agreed. I don't know if it is a flaw in Gus's offensive scheme/philosophy or if they aren't coached well, but they are always inconsistent. Even when they are good. Inconsistent within games, from game to game, and from season to season. Gus needs an elite, Heisman-contending QB in order to make the whole team (not just the offense) go, which is a huge flaw. Of course any team is going to be better with a Heisman-contending QB, but Auburn's problem is that is like a requirement for them in order to be good.

In 2010, they have a Heisman QB and win the title (Gus was OC and that was his offense). In 2013, they have a dark horse Heisman-contending QB and almost win the title. From 2014-16, they had good offensive weapons and a good defense but bad-to-mediocre QB play and went 8-4, 6-6, 8-4. In 2017, they have much better but not Heisman-contending QB play and have an uneven season that looked really promising after beating Alabama but ended in very disappointing fashion. They are just waaay too dependent on having a great QB. He needs to find a way to still have an effective offense when he doesn't have a Superman at QB, because it isn't like they don't have other good offensive players.

Concur; folks down here refer to him as the HS coach. His offensive scheme is relatively simple and most other SEC coaches have figured it out...shear talent and unexpected, big wins have saved his bacon.

AU used to be known for great RB's, and they've had a couple the past few years as well, which I think has helped him out offensively when playing equal or less talented teams. Their D will keep them in games for sure, but sooner or later...those guys are going to wear out as we saw at MSU.

To have a shot; UT has to be near perfect this weekend....and catch some breaks....AU needs to play like they have the past few weekends. May not happen, but based on how AU has played since week 1....I think this is a winnable game.

gus just looks like a guy that's always on the verge of taking a crap. he comes off as anxious and tense, and i can't imagine that's a ton of fun on the sidelines.

basically, he screams "pucker factor set on high". he's been fortunate to have really really good players....and some fantastic recruiters.

Macelroy said it best last night on thinking out loud (similar criticisms were made of Butch's offense as well) about how Auburn's offense isn't predicated on linging up and beating you, it's predicated on tricking the defense. and that just doesn't work long term in the SEC at a high level.

Ive been a UT fan for 30 years bubba, them being terrible wont change that.

You're right though. I have no football knowledge. Thats why I must think UT is a good football team who has a chance to win its first SEC game sine 2006. We have an awesome QB who is just waiting for the right moment to start clicking and lighting it up. The o-line is obviously sandbagging games to lead Bama into a false sense of security. Offense is vanilla, keeping playbook closed for that all important first SEC win. Yeah..that sounds about right.

AU hired Malzhan the same yr Vols hired Jones. He’s won a SEC, played for another, and played for a NC. Lord I wish Tennessee had hired the dummy!

Gus needs a running qB for his scheme to work. Stidham should have known that. He’s a Texas pass-only spread QB.

I didn't bash JG ....

The JG bashing only starts when people seem to think we have a good QB and have to be brought back to reality. So its not really bashing but more like administering an anti-toxin.
Your entire existence on here is to bash JG. Period.

5 games into the season and it appears Butch Jones is still at the helm, but it will get better starting when...........?
