I don't think it has much to do with the ball, but I am not ruling it out completely either. More than one of the muffed punts has been due to having the sun in their eyes. This still falls back on the player making a bad decision. The others, the players were looking away from the ball to see where the gunner was, which is also a player making a bad decision. The coaches can only teach them what to do. They aren't allowed to get out there and actually catch it for them. Most of our problem, IMHO, is lack of experience and consistency at the position, which in turn fuels the lack of confidence. They are all trying too hard to win the job. Put one guy back there, let him make his mistakes and get a little more experience at it before you yank him. I still believe if they could get EG settled down back there, he gave us the best opportunity for a return.
