The problem with our punt return game is--

I think each guy is trying so hard to be the man and take one to the house that they are making bad decisions. If he has someone back there I would think they will be required to call a fair catch.

We just don't have the right guy on our roster. I thought it was going to be Eric Gordon, he's fearless. Unfortunately he didn't make good decisions.

Blocking has ZERO to do with catching the ball.

Again, our return men have not had a chance all season. Go watch the replays and tell me where I am wrong. Catching returns for this team is suicidal. No wonder the return men have no confidence.

You shouldn't have to worry about getting hit if you call a fair catch.

Too bad we use a Wilson GST

Not to be a smarta$$ but we use a Wilson ball not an Adidas ball.

hu·mor (hyoo-mor); noun
1. The quality that makes something laughable or amusing; funniness: could not see the humor of the situation.
2. That which is intended to induce laughter or amusement: a writer skilled at crafting humor.
3. The ability to perceive, enjoy, or express what is amusing, comical, incongruous, or absurd.

how does that work on punts actually, I've never paid attention. The punting team is still considered the offensive team, so wouldn't we be catching whatever ball they use?

I don't think it has much to do with the ball, but I am not ruling it out completely either. More than one of the muffed punts has been due to having the sun in their eyes. This still falls back on the player making a bad decision. The others, the players were looking away from the ball to see where the gunner was, which is also a player making a bad decision. The coaches can only teach them what to do. They aren't allowed to get out there and actually catch it for them. Most of our problem, IMHO, is lack of experience and consistency at the position, which in turn fuels the lack of confidence. They are all trying too hard to win the job. Put one guy back there, let him make his mistakes and get a little more experience at it before you yank him. I still believe if they could get EG settled down back there, he gave us the best opportunity for a return.

At least other aspects of our special teams have improved from the last few years. I just saw we are ranked 7th nationally in kickoff return defense, only allowing 18.6 yards/return.

muffing the punt every other time is not a coaching issue....we have to endure it for 2 more games cuz we got guys who can do it comin in

The problem is we are putting somebody back to catch the punts. Just give up on that and rush 11. That way...unless we rough the punter, we know we'll at least get the ball. This year has been ridiculous.
