The Phil Fulmer buyout countdown

I was looking at the old contract, not the revised one and I think you are correct. Or at least my statement is INCORRECT... still not sure that article has the correct breakdown that happened once he was terminated.

the base contract was much less than the annual income he received.

Thank you for the correction...

Anytime. Yeah, the base is a lot less. Basically the article says that the buyout is his full salary for one year (appx. $2.4M), plus base for each year remaining ($375,000 x 5), plus $1M. I keep getting $5.3, but I assume that $6M is correct. It may be that the 1 full salary is a 1 year average, which would be about $3M instead of $2.4.

I found this after you pointed out my error. :)

this was released after the terminations and I commented on CPF totals..

Phillip Fulmer's complete buyout of his University of Tennessee contract is $6 million. The breakdown follows, as does the breakdown for each assistant coach's buyout.
$ 2,625,000 (base) $ 2,175,000.00 (year of TV etc) $ 200,000.00 (bonux) $ 1,000,000.00 (estra bonus I guess) = $ 6,000,000.00

Coach Fulmer's buyout includes the following categories (in order): remaining base salary, one year tv/apparel/endorsements, the longevity bonus payment pro-rated and an extra payment of $1 million.

As for the assistant coaches listed below, please note that these figures are for two years based on those coaches not finding gainful employment elsewhere. If a coach finds another job, he will be paid the difference in his UT salary vs. the new salary if there is a difference. For instance, if Coach X made $150,000 at UT and gets a new post paying $110,000, UT would owe him a pro-rated portion of the $40,000 difference in the annual salary over two years. So, if that coach accepted a new job within just a short period of time after leaving UT for whatever reason, the school's buyout would be closer to $80,000 than $300,000.

John Chavis $ 687,500
Dave Clawson $ 687,500
Greg Adkins $ 300,000
Dan Brooks $ 285,000
Steve Caldwell $ 300,000
Stan Drayton $ 255,000
Jason Michael $ 255,000
Latrell Scott $ 225,000
Larry Slade $ 262,500
Bruce Warwick (Director of Football Operation) $300,000

Total payout to date: $2,750,000
Remaining payout: $3,250,000
Monthly payments made: 22
Monthly payments remaining: 26

Another payday for the former coach...

the buyout was $1,000,000. Tennessee could have paid that an dnothing more legally.

Tennessee made decision to honor entire contract which came to $6,000,000..

maybe the thread should be titled "Tennesssee Pay Off".

wow
Didn't know that, thanks for sharing

Bowling Green saved us 700K, by hiring Clawful

He's doing nothing wrong to you or UT, so I'm still trying to wonder why you all bash him.

im just wondering why you defend him. why dont you just stick to rooting for purdue and stay in indiana beating off to your oversized poster of Phil.

then we could all stay here and be jealous of both you and Phil

Fail.

Not like the dude never did anything his entire career. 152 wins is solid no matter how you slice it.

Amen.

Fulmer may have let the game pass him by, but we'll be fortunate if we see another coach match his level of success in our lifetime.

I'm grateful for what he did for UT football. And I hope Derek Dooley turns out to be as good as Phil Fulmer was for the next 16 years.

good for him and you. you are really starting to sound like the bama douchebags and their fetish with bear bryant. ok - he was good, he won, he was blah blah blah.

but the fact is he isnt here - right or wrong and for whatever reason. why keep talking about it whether you defend him or take shots at him. its the past. most tennessee fans live their and thats why the program is in the state its in now.
so you keep defending your hero and stay in the 90's

Man, you're a joke. You can't type, you've got no point, and you're just plain stupid.

If you can't appreciate a guy who led a dominating team in the 90s, won us a few SEC Championships and a National Title (which, by the way, was our first in 47 years) then you've got some issues.

No one ever said he was their "hero". We just aren't immature punks who can appreciate a guy's contributions to a storied program.

By your logic, the stadium shouldn't be named Neyland and we shouldn't put up any sort of mention of the guys who built the program into what it is.

did you play for tennessee or for fulmer? if not why do you refer to "us"? "we" have nothing to do with what they call as plays or the effort to win or who they hire as coaches. but i guess you want to tie yourself to something you have nothing to do with as a way to feel like you matter
