The official UT v. LSU game thread

Big Baby did get the benefit of a lot more calls than Lofton. Obviously the refs weren’t enamored with his choice as POY.

I'm so disgusted with this game, it made me sick to my stomach. i hate the SEC tourney. We should never play in it again. (we always lose). Anyways hopefully the NCAA tourney will treat us better.

I find it impossible to believe that the officiating was anywhere near as bad as I've seen all day here. Once you get west of the Mississippi, trained chimps would be an improvement over 75% of the officials.
Hat, I was there tonight. Our guys got mugged. Granted, they're going to have to learn how to play tough in the post when the refs start pocketing the whistle. Still, Valentine wrapped this one up pretty nice for Brady and co.

I think we'll fare much better in the NCAA Tourney with non-SEC refs.

Excuses, Excuses!!! I thought the calls were even. Tennessee just didn't shoot the ball well and they got beat on the boards. The game shouldn't even have went into OT because the foul on Templeton at the end of regulation was crap. Tennessee just got beat. JuJuan Smith needs to be benched too. He throws up some terrible shots. He is an "I" player and not a team player. He tries to be so much like Lofton, but he is not near the shooter Loften is.

The fact Ted Valentine is allowed to officiate games at a level higher than elementary school is an absolute atrocity.

Let's face it. We lost. Same old Tennessee when it comes to tournament time--good officiating or bad officiating. Makes me want to throw up.

Even though I came very close to throwing my remote control and breaking it and I couldn't sleep because I was so po'd, I am still proud of the Vols.

I give credit to LSU for being a fairly good team, but Brady is a prick and Davis is creepy looking, not as bad as Noah, but close.

What is the deal with LSU having pricks as coaches?

I cannot stand their football team and I cannot stand their basketball team. I will be rooting for the opposing teams that they play against, no matter who they are.

I'm not gonna blame this one on the refs at all, this one was on UT. I absolutely do not understand why we played a half-court offense vs. LSU. That seems to play right into the hands of LSU.. why were we not running up and down with them?? I don't get that at all. It was blatantly obvious that John Brady did exactly what he wanted to do with making those comments on Wednesday, he got into the heads of our players and made them think about it.. especially JuJuan Smith. JuJuan played horrible, he failed to show up. Yes, the length of LSU definitely bothered all of our shooters but guess what, great teams step up when challenged and it's time for our guys to step up and make some shots when it matters most. Hopefully they'll get some rest and be ready next week for a fight because they're going to be going up against, most likely, an 11 or 12 seed.

I don't think it'd matter if John Freakin Wooden himself was coaching our team, we would find a way to lose in the SEC Tournament and I'm afraid this year it's going to be that way in the NCAA's as well. You rarely see teams with freshmen leading them go very far in the NCAA Tournament... inexperience will always haunt you in the tournament.

Yes the refs made some bad calls but I'm going to put it ALL on them. Bruce Pearl should of gave JuJuan Smith a real good talk after John Brady made those comments about him because he was just throwing up some DUMB shots the whole game. What pissed me off more was that he was trying to prove something at the end of regulation by shooting it 50 feet away instead of being smart and passing it to Chris or drive to the basket to force a foul.

Yep, it was a horror to behold. At one point Ramar got hammered ala Tyler Hansborough going to the basket and Valentine made a no call. In another instance, Duke Crews planted his feet a good 2 seconds before Big Baby steamrolled him, and this occurred outside the "no call" area. Blocking foul on Crews, Glen Davis goes to the line.

OK - I'll stop yelling about the refs. But please, someone, fire Ted Valentine. Better yet, fire all the SEC officials and start over :)

Somebody needs to run some stats on our record this year when our games are officiated by Ted Valentine's crew. I suspect we're beneath .500 ...

J. Smith has been shooting those crazy 3's all year. I don't know why everyone is so shocked that he did it last night.

Somebody needs to compare Jujuan's three point percentage at the Tommy versus on the road and at neutral sites. I surmise the difference would be striking.

Yep, I'm sure it's pretty drastic. Then again, you could do that for everyone on the team.

We played right into Brady's hands! Props to LG for seeing this one coming! Probably one of if not the worst games of Bruce's stay in Knoxville!. Oh well lets suck it up and make a run in the NC2A!

I wasn't shocked. I was just pissed off at the fact that he didn't during a very important game and at the most important time of the game (7 seconds left in regulation)

What has happened to Lofton's FTs? He has missed more in the last couple of weeks than he has in his whole career! Or it seems that way.

Refs killed us. How many times did we have guys knocked to the floor and no call. Tennessee wasn't even in the bonus till 2:00 left. The refs called the game for LSU.

I thought we didn't get into the bonus until less than a minute left in regulation. In any case, the lack of fouls called in the paint was absurd. Turned it from a basketball game to a wrestling match.

Tennesee isnt a good team in tourneys because we are a team that shoots a ton of 3s, and its hard to be on every night and it takes a little bit to get used to the goals at new arenas. Jujuan Smith took crazy shots as usual just he normally makes some and he did aweful tonight. Jujuan seems to just think of himself alot of the time. I want to know why lofton didnt have the ball at the end. Ramar, who admits himself that he's a bad 3 point shooter was shooting every time at the end and didn't even look at Lofton. The calls were terrible. We just didn't get it done period.

Well it's 9 hours after the loss. After a good night's sleep and time to think about it.

I'M STILL P.O. ed!!!:realmad: :furious3:

I was disappointed with our very last possession in regulation. 7 seconds left and coming out of a time out. I am used to Pearl setting up really good plays after a time out. We did not get a good shot off in that set, very disapponting.

Which in turn played right into LSU hands:banghead2:

Lofton and Ramar were driving into the lane and getting drilled time after time and they wouldnt call anything, Crack Baby would take one step and they'd call a foul on us.
