My family in February suggested we ask the vets office to see if any of the techs would watch him or if they had references

I knew right away, Kevin wouldn't do someone we don't know

And sure enough, he is not willing to go that route

He doesn't want his mom to come back out like she did from Texas last year, which I get. I don't want that to be our option either, time to find someone local

So yesterday, I reached out to Rocky's old daycare to see if any of the girls would watch him. She is going to get back to me.

Also contacted a couple old coworkers because I know they used sitters instead of daycares

One has given me a contact

Also contacted a friend who said they would be willing to watch Rocky, but they think they will be out of town when we are going

I have now started messaging people on Rover - pet sitter website

Ton of people with great reviews

Thanks for posting. So sad. I guess the only very slight positive from one of his earlier post is that they knew it was coming so they could somewhat know to really value the last time left rather than having an abrupt end. Regardless, it is never easy to lose anyone.
