Can someone explain why there were series of games leading up to this championships series, but now it's just one loss against UVA and we move on to an elimination?

This part of the College World Series is nearly identical to the Regional format (with a day in between games) and the Championship Series is nearly identical to the Super Regional format.

Eight team field is broken into 2 - 4 team brackets.
Each 4 team bracket is a double elimination mini tournament.
The two winners of the 4 team brackets play each other in a best two out of three for the championship.

Tennessee could find that magic, focus, get on base, hit home runs, play solid defense, pitch shut down ball, cut the mistakes, and win the Championship. Positivity. Every win at this point would be HUGE for the future success of the baseball program. Go Vols...GET ER DONE!

Not directly, but his mom was recruited hard by MR. DALLAS!
Ha. Chad Dallas was in jr college and a diamond in the rough that was overlooked by most of the big programs. Coach Anderson knows talent when he sees it, and recruited him to TN if my memory serves me correctly. I don’t think he was recruited by TX. Their loss is our gain.

I am always amused at this lack of historical perspective when we talk about "UT Jr". Keep in mind, without the Volunteers, TX might still belong to Mexico. So, essentially, Texas: We are your daddy! Now come get your azz whippin lil one.

Not to mention, the real UT in Knoxville was founded 50 years before "little UT" in TX.

Sam Houston was a Virginian. Add VA to the list of states owed big by Tejas.

It's exactly like regionals...double elimination. Then the finals is best 2 of 3

Tristan Stevens (RHP):
Record: 11-3
ERA: 2.97
Appearances/Starts: 16/16
Innings: 103.0
Hits: 90
Runs/ER: 34/34
Walks: 19
Strikeouts: 74
Opponent BA: .233
HR: 5

Wins (Score)
South Carolina (3-0), Baylor (4-3), Oklahoma (11-6), Kansas (7-0), Kansas St (15-1), Abilene Christ. (3-1), Oklahoma St (5-2), WVU (14-3), Oklahoma (4-1), Southern (11-0), USF (12-4)

Losses (Scores)
Arkansas (4-0), Texas Tech (5-3), TCU (2-1)

As I posted earlier, Stevens relies on his fastball when he’s in do-or-die situations. His fastball has some sinking action and sits around 90-94 but comes down a little as the game goes on. From his stats, you can see that he doesn’t give up free bases and every run is earned. On the other hand, it seems like he pitches to contact with only 74 strikeouts in 103.0 innings pitched (Chad Dallas has 122 SO in the same amount of innings pitched). The combination of contact pitching, lower # of strikeouts, and a hungry Vols offense could be recipe for disaster for the Texas starter.

It’s Omaha. The #1 goal of the entire season. Why did they not put forth their best effort Sunday?

They did put in effort, just not the conviction we’re accustomed to seeing. The Cavaliers also had an excellent, detailed scout of our guys. Abbott was fantastic and his team made plays.

It just wasn’t our day.
