The Official Tennessee vs. Charlotte Game Thread, 4:00 PM ET, SEC Network (Alt.)

Watched this train wreck on TV like I’ve done all season.
I’m coming next weekend to Neyland with family to see the KY game. I hope the VOLS show up too.

Everybody always wants the backup quarterback when things go poorly. JG needs to improve on some things but he’s not the problem.
Without JG's play, we don't beat Auburn, and we might not have won today.

Went to the game this week. It was the most boring game I've ever attended. The crowd rarely got into it and plenty of empty seats. Could be because of who we played but not real entertaining!
Same here. They didn't really give us anything to cheer about. The punt return TD was loud but other than that, everyone was sitting down for the most part.

I was wrong about the Auburn game and they are still ahead of schedule. It just feels like everything is coming down to Vandy for a bowl spot. Gotta shove ahead with JG at this point, but where was the stable of running backs today? No O-line? They still should have mustered more production, and they will have to going forward, as the coach stated after the game. Gonna be an exciting road to Shreveport!
you
Lol. Keep dreaming

Howdy Vol fans. New registration, so please be gentle. :p

I am Charlotte class of '95 and UT class of '99 (yeah I was there for Peyton and Tee & the NC season), and I'm a fan of both programs. So maybe I have a less common perspective.

Just a couple of comments after reading the last few pages: give Charlotte some credit. Their run defense is legit. UT isn't the only team that couldn't run on them. Where Charlotte struggles is defending fast and/or big WR. Vol OL was less impressive in pass protection IMHO than in run blocking. Charlotte does not usually generate a pass rush, and it surprised even me. JG took some licks today that he can't keep taking.

FWIW, Shireffs is Charlotte's backup QB. The starter is an undersized gutsy kid who can scramble and extend plays. I wonder how the game would have looked with him and Victor Tucker, their most productive WR (by a wide margin, but he's hurt) today?

I was gonna give player of the game to 49ers Alex Highsmith, but Phillips was a difference maker today. He dominated.

FWIW, the hardcore 49er fans want HC Brad Lambert fired, so the Vols did them a favor today. Defensive improvement attributable to young guys elevating their play this season under DC Glenn Spencer (formerly long time Oklahoma State DC).

I'm patient with Pruitt. IMO, give him some time. Some very obvious holes to be addressed in recruiting.

I couldn't make it out to Neyland today, but I intend to be there for the rematch.

Go Niners & Go Vols!

We’re never as good or as bad as one game makes us appear.
I agree but so far this year looks more likely to happen than not to happen. All three teams we will face are better that we are. I have been a fan for 50 years and still will be until the end. JMHO as always.

I think we will be in them all.
I feel better about the KY game now.
Their season just ended and angry only lasts the first quarter.

We will see. I’m not confident in any direction. I believe it will be close in every game
