I am Charlotte class of '95 and UT class of '99 (yeah I was there for Peyton and Tee & the NC season), and I'm a fan of both programs. So maybe I have a less common perspective.

Just a couple of comments after reading the last few pages: give Charlotte some credit. Their run defense is legit. UT isn't the only team that couldn't run on them. Where Charlotte struggles is defending fast and/or big WR. Vol OL was less impressive in pass protection IMHO than in run blocking. Charlotte does not usually generate a pass rush, and it surprised even me. JG took some licks today that he can't keep taking.

FWIW, Shireffs is Charlotte's backup QB. The starter is an undersized gutsy kid who can scramble and extend plays. I wonder how the game would have looked with him and Victor Tucker, their most productive WR (by a wide margin, but he's hurt) today?

I was gonna give player of the game to 49ers Alex Highsmith, but Phillips was a difference maker today. He dominated.

FWIW, the hardcore 49er fans want HC Brad Lambert fired, so the Vols did them a favor today. Defensive improvement attributable to young guys elevating their play this season under DC Glenn Spencer (formerly long time Oklahoma State DC).

I'm patient with Pruitt. IMO, give him some time. Some very obvious holes to be addressed in recruiting.

I couldn't make it out to Neyland today, but I intend to be there for the rematch.

The better team lost today. Pretty sure the pu***** associated with our program want nothing to do with a rematch anytime soon.

He didn’t play because the score was 14-3 and the game was in doubt until the last 1:30 or so. They didn’t hold him out to preserve his redshirt, because he can play up to FOUR games and still redshirt. They didn’t let him play because our team was so bad we couldn’t handle a C-USA team at home.

Cut him some slack. This should have been a 40+ to (whatever we gave them in garbage time) game. What we saw today won't beat UK, MIzzou, or Vandy. One of the most uninspired wins I can remember.

Vols deserve any and all criticism they get over this one.

Agree with all of that, but Charlotte wasn’t the better team today.

Well if you want to take it out of context.

My post was in regards to running a toss sweep in the redzone with 2yds to go to the short side of the field out of the I formation with an extra blocker when on the play just before that we ran up the middle without an extra blocker and gained 4yds.

Don’t take my post out of context. But yes it does make a big deal. If we would have ran up the middle we would have gained the 2yds more likely since we had an extra blocker and Banks running it up the middle.

I've reached the point where I'm having horrific flashbacks after UT games. Remember when people were pimping Dooley's mother as the voice of reason, or the gif of a tank going through snow and comparing it to Lyle on the recruiting trail? We really do have a delusional fanbase.

Nah, Charlotte's offense is just too limited right now. Lemay is a very solid back, but they had no other weapons today. That Tucker kid I mentioned is really good, but they still don't have the QB play to beat good teams. That's why App and UAB handled them. They can't score in the red zone.

Actually the real reason I replied is to tell you Charlotte will be back in 2020. I am definitely going to that one. Been too long since I've been back.

I hope both teams are better by then. Would love to see at least one of them ranked.
