Pathetic effort in the exclamation point to a disappointing season, from both an effort and improvement standpoint. The glimmer of hope of the Auburn and UK games has been completely erased by the embarrassment of the lack of effort against UF, Bama, USCe, Mizzou, and now...especially...Vandy. This was not what we paid for, hoped for, or waited all year for. This is sad.
And despite an OL that should have been named "The Matadors", JG is simply not an SEC-level QB. He's just not. It took me all year to see it, but today it was there for all to see. He might be our best QB, but he's not an SEC QB. Shurmer would have killed Vandy had he been in white today, even with our OL. Consider that.
The Culture of Losing that Pruitt and staff inherited is still there. Only time and turnover can fix it. Mostly turnover. We saw life from the freshman class. Next year, Pruitt will have two classes onboard, but freshmen and sophomores don't tilt the scales much in the SEC. Sadly, it will be 2020, at best, before we really get a feel for what this staff can do. Gotta cut out all of the rot before you can heal the wound. And there's a lot of rot to get rid of. This roster is full of it.
It starts with the lines. Recruit and build a strong OL and DL, and go from there. Pruitt might have had an idea what he was up against when he took the job, but after today he knows just how bad it is. Where he goes from here will determine whether he's here in three years, or beyond. I'd much rather him prove himself here than learn from his mistakes at his next stop. Sooner or later, he's going to be a winner. I'll take later, as long as it's here.
Sorry, but I'm glad this season is over. Now maybe we can start the actual building process.
Go Vols.
